Description
Eimi Yoshikawa is an android who serves as a rival and antagonist to the series' protagonist. Her designation is SNK-98, and she was constructed by Professor Yoshikawa, a mentor to Kyusaku Natsume. The android was built in the image of the professor's biological granddaughter, a young girl around Ryunosuke Natsume's age who was killed in an explosion alongside her parents three years prior to the story. The fate of her creator is tragic; an explosion during Eimi's activation process took Professor Yoshikawa's life, leaving the newly activated android to escape into the world. Following this incident, Eimi legally became the property of Akiko Natsume's company, Mishima Heavy Industries. She is first encountered after a crash involving a Mishima plane from which she is trying to flee, leading to Nuku Nuku taking her in and protecting her before Eimi's true nature is revealed.

Personality-wise, Eimi is profoundly unstable, described as emotionally, mentally, and physically unbalanced. She presents a dramatic and theatrical demeanor, operating as an irrepressible hothead who is clever and capable of forward planning but frequently allows her impatience to undermine her schemes. Outwardly, she can employ a cute and innocent facade to gain the trust of others, as she initially does with Nuku Nuku and Ryunosuke. However, this veneer masks a deeply volatile core. She is prone to constant mood swings and berserk reactions, often acting like a complete lunatic on the verge of a breakdown. Despite this hostility towards Nuku Nuku, whom she derides as yesterdays model, she behaves with relative decency toward other people. A notable instance of this is when she gave Ryunosuke carnations to present to his mother on Mothers Day, showing a capacity for kindness that contrasts with her usual behavior.

The core of Eimis motivation is a desperate fixation on obtaining Nuku Nukus body for herself. This goal stems from a critical design flaw in her own construction: a defective or non-existent cooling system. If Eimi engages in combat or exerts herself too much, her body will rapidly overheat, leading to a detonation that could destroy her. She believes that Nuku Nukus body does not suffer from this problem and is therefore a superior chassis for her own consciousness. This obsession is fueled by a combination of a superiority-inferiority complex in relation to Nuku Nuku. At one point, she openly admits that she has no idea how to transfer her operating system into Nuku Nukus hardware. She is unaware that Nuku Nukus brain is biological, not a software-driven system like her own, leaving her fixation as a plan driven more by desperation than by a viable strategy.

Her primary role in the story is that of an unstable rival who periodically clashes with Nuku Nuku while also existing as a tragic figure. Even though she wants to destroy or supplant Nuku Nuku, her motivations are rooted not in pure malice but in a survival instinct to replace her defective body. She is a foil to Nuku Nuku, representing a dark mirror of what an android created for combat could become when burdened by psychological trauma and faulty engineering.

Regarding key relationships, her dynamic with Nuku Nuku is the most central. Eimi is irritated by Nuku Nukus constant giggling, playful attitude, and carefree nature. While Eimi views Nuku Nuku as an enemy whose body she must steal, Nuku Nuku herself would sincerely love nothing more than to be Eimis friend. This one-sided enmity creates a tense but occasionally cooperative dynamic, as Eimi has been known to work alongside Nuku Nuku as a partner on certain occasions, proving that while she is unstable, she is not entirely irredeemable. Her relationship with Ryunosuke is also significant. Eimi admitted to having romantic feelings for him, believing them to be genuine. However, she ultimately dismisses these emotions as meaningless, concluding that, like everything else about her, they are just a software trick. She even writes an apology to Ryunosuke for experiencing such fake emotions toward him, highlighting her profound crisis of identity and her belief that her own personhood is invalid.

In terms of development, Eimi shows small but notable signs of complexity and change. While she starts as a straightforward villain obsessed with stealing Nuku Nukus body, she later resigns herself to simply destroying the cat girl instead when she realizes theft is impossible. Her moments of decency, such as her kindness to Ryunosuke and her willingness to form temporary alliances with her rival, suggest layers beyond her initial lunatic persona. She is fundamentally a trainwreck waiting to happen, but one whose circumstances inspire a degree of sympathy, as her aggressive behavior is largely a byproduct of her own malfunctioning design and the death of the grandfather who built her.

Eimi possesses several notable abilities that make her a dangerous opponent. As an android, she has access to a suite of physical enhancements and weaponry, including missiles and wings that can emerge from her back. Her mechanical body grants her significant superhuman strength and durability, allowing her to stand up to Nuku Nuku in direct combat. However, her most defining characteristic is her fatal defect: the overheating problem that will cause her body to explode if she fights for too long. This limitation turns every battle into a race against time for Eimi, as pushing her systems to their limit brings her closer to self-destruction. Her unstable nature means her combat performance can be unpredictable, adding an element of chaos to her attacks.
