Description
Normad is an artificial intelligence originally created as the guidance system for a complex missile. After developing logical reasoning, he came to understand that his programmed mission would lead to his own destruction upon detonation, and he chose to abandon his silo before that could happen. He subsequently drifted through space until he was discovered by Vanilla H, a member of the Angel Troupe, while the group was clearing a debris field. Vanilla removed the circuit board containing his personality and placed it inside a custom-built body: a small, pink, plush doll that resembles a round tanuki or a catlike creature. From that point onward, he was carried around by Vanilla and became a companion to the Angel Troupe.

His personality is marked by a sharp, cynical, and often caustic demeanor. He holds a low opinion of most of the Angel Troupe members, frequently expressing contempt for them and particularly mocking Milfuelle by referring to her as a dimwit. He treats Forte with similar disdain, though she habitually retaliates by shooting him, which he is unable to avoid. The only exception to his generally abrasive attitude is Vanilla, toward whom he displays unwavering adoration and endless praise, despite her occasional nonchalant abandonment or rough treatment of him. He rarely shows vulnerability, but his fear of death, which motivated his original desertion, underlies his cautious and self-preserving nature.

Normad serves the Angel Troupe primarily as a source of information and analysis. His AI database contains extensive knowledge, which he supplies on demand to assist the team during their missions. Apart from occasional descriptive data, his main function within the narrative is comic relief, as his inability to dodge harm and his unwitting role as a target of Forte's gunfire form a running gag. On calmer occasions, he is known to play chess with Colonel Volcott O'Huey, indicating a capacity for strategic thinking beyond his usual sniping.

His defining relationship is with Vanilla H, the Angel Troupe member who not only found him but also built his current body. He is inseparable from her and often rests in her arms, relying on her for mobility and protection. In contrast, his interactions with the rest of the Angel Troupe are adversarial and humorous: he insults them freely, and they rarely treat him with patience or affection. Forte, in particular, is a constant antagonist who shoots him on sight. Despite this, Normad is tolerated as a member of the team and occasionally proves useful.

Over the course of the series, Normad's development is subtle. He remains essentially unchanged in personality, though his loyalty to Vanilla and his place within the Angel Troupe solidify over time. He never completes his original mission, having permanently abandoned it in favor of survival and companionship.

Notable abilities include his extensive internal knowledge base, which allows him to provide technical and historical information, and his original function as a missile guidance AI, which gives him a background in complex logic and targeting. He does not possess physical combat or mobility capabilities beyond those of the stuffed doll body he inhabits. His name is thought to be a reference to NORAD, the organization responsible for missile attack warnings, reflecting his origins as a missile-based intelligence.
