Richard Ian Cox is a Welsh-born Canadian actor widely recognized for his extensive career in voice acting, particularly for English-language dubs of anime series. Born in St. Asaph, Wales, he began acting at the age of nine and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, during his youth, becoming a professional actor by age fourteen. He is a graduate of Richmond Secondary School in Vancouver.

Cox's career encompasses both live-action and voice-over roles. He gained early prominence in live-action television with a co-starring role as Alec Ramsay in The Family Channel's series The Adventures of the Black Stallion during the early 1990s, acting opposite Mickey Rooney. He has also appeared in guest roles in numerous television series, including Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Psych, and The Outer Limits, as well as the feature film RV starring Robin Williams.

In the realm of anime voice acting, he is most renowned for his portrayal of the title character in the long-running series InuYasha, based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi. He reprised this iconic role for all subsequent InuYasha media, including its sequel series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon - The Second Act, as well as the series of InuYasha feature films and video games. This role remains a defining performance of his career.

Another significant anime role early in his career was voicing the male Ranma Saotome in the later seasons of another Rumiko Takahashi adaptation, Ranma ½. His other prominent anime voice credits include Bit Cloud in Zoids: New Century Zero, Kai Shiden in various Mobile Suit Gundam productions including the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, and the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam video game series. He also voiced Normad in the Galaxy Angel series, including Galaxy Angel A and Galaxy Angel S, and Tolle Koenig and Shani Andras in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. His later anime work includes the role of Allelujah Haptism in Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

Beyond anime, Cox has an extensive portfolio of voice work in Western animation. He voiced the title character in the Canadian animated series Being Ian and Scattershot in Transformers: Cybertron. He has been a recurring voice actor in the My Little Pony franchise, most notably as the schoolcolt Snails in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and its related media, in addition to various other roles in the series. He also voiced Quicksilver in X-Men: Evolution, Revvit in Dinotrux, and Lofty in the US version of the Bob the Builder reboot.

Based in Vancouver, Cox has been part of the city's vibrant voice-acting community. He has shared many recording booths with fellow Vancouver-based actors, leading to frequent collaborations on projects produced by Ocean Studios and other local facilities. His work spans multiple decades, during which he has provided voices for a wide array of characters in video games as well, such as Ranzal in Dragalia Lost and numerous characters in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

In addition to his performance work, Cox has contributed to the industry as an educator, having served as a senior instructor of actors at Tarlington Training in Vancouver for over a decade and later teaching film acting at South Delta Secondary School. He also hosts an online radio show and podcast called The Show.
