OVA
Description
Croire is a character who appears in the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, including the OVA Hyperdimension Neptunia Nep Nep Darake no Festival. She is a fairy-like being who is intrinsically linked to a tome, similar in nature to the oracle Histoire, but serves as a chaotic counterpart rather than a force for order. Her physical appearance is distinctive, featuring pale-tan skin, bright blue eyes, and choppy, platinum blonde-white hair. She wears black ear pieces with red accents and possesses a pair of purple and blue gradient-themed wings. Her attire consists of a black dress with silver and red accents, a crimson ribbon tied around her right wrist, and a cape-like piece attached to her top by a large pink orb at its center, with smaller pink orbs below her shoulders.

In terms of personality, Croire is characterized by a crass, argumentative, and overtly rude demeanor. She speaks in a vulgar tone and frequently uses derogatory terms to describe others, showing little to no concern for anyone who becomes entangled in the trouble she causes. Her primary motivation is her own entertainment, and she actively seeks out or instigates strife, chaos, and societal collapse solely because she finds these events to be interesting. Unlike Histoire, who works diligently to preserve peace and record history passively, Croire views herself as a chronicler whose purpose is to ensure that history remains exciting, even if that excitement is born from destruction. Her name is derived from the French word for to believe, which stands in ironic contrast to her nihilistic tendency to break the faith and hope of others.

Croire acts as an observer and catalyst for dimensional conflicts, though she rarely engages in direct combat. She plays a significant role as an antagonist by proxy, most notably by manipulating Rei Kiseijou and feeding her dark power, which kickstarts the events of the Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory story. Her core ability lies in dimensional travel. Unlike Histoire, who cannot travel between realities, Croire can freely open portals and traverse dimensions, a skill that makes her a unique and unpredictable asset. She also possesses the ability to steal and bestow powers, such as transferring Rei's dark energy between dimension. Her powers extend to spatial connection, allowing her to teleport individuals by connecting different spaces, and she has demonstrated the capacity to create bright flashes of light to blind opponents.

Within the story of the specific OVA Nep Nep Darake no Festival, Croire accompanies the older Neptune from the Ultra Dimension. She arrives in the Hyper Dimension to visit Nepgear and the others, explaining that she walked through a dimensional gate that appeared before her. During this visit, she observes Neptune of the Hyper Dimension collapsing from exhaustion due to overwork. When the group expresses concern, Croire dismisses the severity of the situation, stating that she has witnessed a similar phenomenon before with a certain goddess, who woke up hours later with no lasting harm.

Croires key relationships are defined by her role as a troublemaker. She was originally the assistant to the fallen goddess Rei Kiseijou of Tari, having been with Rei since she accidentally became a CPU. She has an antagonistic but often comedic relationship with the various versions of Neptune. After the events of Victory, she was famously captured by the Ultra Dimension Neptune, who mistook her for a rare bug and trapped her in a specimen book. This leads to a dynamic where the older Neptune keeps Croire confined, using her dimensional travel abilities for her own purposes while threatening her with needles, much to Croires indignation.

Croire does not undergo a traditional redemption arc or drastic personality shift. She remains consistently motivated by self-interest and a desire for amusement. However, her role evolves from a free agent of chaos to a semi-reluctant, imprisoned tool for the protagonists, particularly the older Neptune. Despite her captivity, she continues to scheme and complain, but her powers are frequently co-opted for the benefit of the group. She provides crucial exposition regarding dimensional phenomena and occasionally displays brief flashes of genuine disapproval at the consequences of her actions, hinting at a complexity that remains largely unexplored beneath her outwardly sadistic and nihilistic exterior.
