Description
Gin is one of twin sister Yo-kai serving as secondary antagonists in the film, working alongside her sister Kin and younger brother Bronzlow under Dame Dedtime. She possesses grey skin, poofy white hair, red-orange eyes, a silver medal, and a white diamond on her forehead. Her attire includes a blue skirt, blue-trimmed robes, and sandals, contrasting with Kin's yellow-accented design.
Gin and Kin manipulate time using a Time Stone to rewind events, evade attacks, and send targets back to pivotal moments in their past. They deceptively offer chances to alter decisions to advance their goals. Gin specifically utilizes techniques like "Water Smash," conjuring a waterfall attack, "Frozen World," an ice-based area attack, and "Mob Mentality," compelling allies to attack each other. If Kin falls, Gin can attempt her revival with the Time Stone, though destroying the stone prevents this. When together, the sisters unleash the rare "Twisted Sisters" Soultimate move against frontline targets.
Their core motivation is erasing the Yo-kai Watch and severing human-Yo-kai bonds. In the film, they directly erase protagonist Nate Adams' memories of Yo-kai and his Yo-kai Watch. They later taunt Nate to provoke confrontation and aid Dame Dedtime in abducting Jibanyan. A flashback reveals their indirect role in a traumatic incident from Nate's grandfather Nathaniel's childhood; they sent Wicked Yo-kai to inspirit bullies targeting Nathaniel's friend. During the final battle, Gin and Kin use their time-manipulating clock to rewind damage Dame Dedtime sustains. They are ultimately defeated through Dandoodle's mesmerization and Shogunyan's sword strikes, after which Dame Dedtime absorbs them to achieve her final form.
Gin's name translates to "silver" in Japanese, reflecting her color scheme. The characters are likely inspired by the Kinsan Ginsan twins, record-holding identical twins, reinforced by Dame Dedtime addressing them with the respectful "-san" suffix in Japanese.
Outside the film, Gin and Kin appear in the anime episodes "Jibanyan's Secret" and "Whisper's Secret Past." They attempt to permanently separate Nate from Jibanyan and Whisper by sending them back to relive pivotal moments—Jibanyan's death and Whisper's life as Whispocrates in the Sengoku period. Both attempts fail when the targets reaffirm their bonds, leading Gin to dismiss their stories as "stupid" and lament the unchanged outcomes. These episodes mark their final anime appearances.
In the game *Yo-kai Watch 2* (sharing narrative elements with the film), Gin and Kin cause the initial disappearance of the Yo-kai Watch and memories of Yo-kai. They battle the player multiple times, including efforts to isolate Jibanyan from the protagonist, culminating in a final confrontation alongside Dame Dedtime and Bronzlow. After defeat, Bronzlow accidentally freezes them in time during a revival attempt, ending their threat.
