OVA
Description
Histoire is an artificial being who serves as the living archive of Gamindustri's history. She manifests in two forms simultaneously: as a magical tome containing all recorded knowledge of her world, and as a small, fairy-like girl who rides atop this book. Her existence is tied to the very fabric of her reality, as she possesses the power to manipulate Share Energy and even reshape reality itself, though major alterations typically require permission and take a fixed amount of time to process due to embedded security protocols.
In the OVA Hyperdimension Neptunia Nep Nep Darake no Festival, Histoire acts as the primary administrator and logistical coordinator for the Planeptune Costume Festival. She is seen assisting Neptune with signing autograph boards, stamping the signed shikishi, and ensuring that work progresses on schedule. When Neptune collapses from overworking herself, Histoire is the one who makes an emergency call to Nepgear, instructing her to return home immediately to handle the crisis. Later in the story, she collaborates with the rogue tome Croire to analyze and diagnose the cause of Neptune's dimensional displacement.
Histoire's personality is defined by a calm, professional demeanor combined with a distinct speech pattern that includes the use of emoticons, such as (・ω・'). Despite her serious and intelligent nature, she possesses a very low tolerance for laziness and foolishness, particularly from the CPUs under her care. She has been known to display explosive anger when criticized, especially regarding her processing speed, which can be notably slow. In fact, calling her slow is a guaranteed way to make her transform into what Neptune calls Pissty, a furious state that her companions try to avoid. Nevertheless, she is fundamentally sweet, cheerful, and driven by a strong sense of right and wrong.
Her primary motivation is the stability and proper governance of Planeptune. As the nation's oracle and advisor, she enforces responsibility among its leaders. Her relationship with Neptune is central to this dynamic; she constantly nags the lazy CPU to perform her duties, and in some dimensions, she has gone as far as expelling Neptune and Nepgear from their home for chronic neglect of their responsibilities. Conversely, she acts as a mentor and a source of guidance for Nepgear, trusting her with critical missions in times of crisis. In the Nep-Nep Festival OVA, she works alongside Croire, a fellow artificial tome, demonstrating a professional relationship between two similar beings even across dimensional lines.
Histoire's role in the story consistently places her in a support and management capacity. She acts as the control center for Planeptune, monitoring the health and workload of its CPU, coordinating emergency responses, and maintaining communication across dimensions. In other installments of the series, she is responsible for rescuing captured CPUs, stabilizing the nation during political takeovers, and providing the exposition needed for heroes to save the world. Her dimensional variants have distinct traits; while the Hyper Dimension version sometimes experiences amnesia regarding past goddesses, the Ultra Dimension version, nicknamed Mini-Histy, is even smaller in stature, has considerably slower processing speeds due to her compact size, and ironically possesses a fear of heights despite having the ability to fly.
Regarding her abilities, Histoire is capable of flight and can use her tome as a weapon for energy-based attacks. She excels in high-intelligence magic attacks and can manipulate Share Energy to perform purification and miracles. Her primary utility, however, lies in her vast knowledge and her ability to communicate across different dimensions. A notable weakness is her processing lag; she consistently requires three units of time, such as three hours or three days, to find or compute specific pieces of information. Despite this, her artificial nature grants her a form of Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory, meaning she retains her memories even when the universe undergoes a cosmic retcon that erases the memories of others.
