Description
Kiku Hoshimi is a female vampire who has lived for more than five hundred years, with her existence tracing back to at least the sixteenth century. Her name, Kiku, translates to chrysanthemum. She is believed to have been transformed into a vampire after surviving an execution by fire during the era of witch hunts. Throughout her long life, she has created an unusually large number of followers, with estimates reaching around fifty or more, which is a considerable number for a vampire in her world. Despite this, she typically severs all ties with those she turns, rarely maintaining contact with them and often abandoning them after they become vampires. This pattern of behavior has made her something of an enigma, even among other vampires, who consider her strange and acknowledge that her actions have caused many problems.

In terms of appearance, Kiku has semi-short, chestnut-brown hair parted in the center and soft, pale brown eyes that give her a gentle and subtly beautiful expression. Her outward personality is one of delicate charm and an aloof aura, which allows her to easily gain the trust and affection of others. She is talkative and persuasive, possessing a notable ability to say precisely what someone wants to hear, which makes her a comforting presence. Mahiru Seki, in particular, deeply appreciates her for this, as she seems to understand and comfort him during times of stress. However, this gentle mask conceals a much more volatile interior. She is cunning, exceptionally possessive toward chosen servants, and can be short-tempered and emotionally unstable, prone to outbursts when threatened or inconvenienced. Other characters, such as Nazuna Nanakusa and Anko Uguisu, often find her too unpredictable and intense to hold a normal conversation with.

Kiku Hoshimi’s primary motivation appears to be a profound longing to become human again. To this end, she conducted various studies and consultations with other characters, including Haru, Nazuna Nanakusa's mother. A theory she explored was that the way to regain her humanity was to genuinely fall in love with a human. Her actions over the centuries have been driven by this pursuit; she continuously seeks out humans, attempting to make them fall in love with her. However, she has historically failed in this endeavor, as she never truly fell in love herself, only succeeded in making the other person love her, after which she would neglect and abandon them. Her current and most intense focus is on a young human named Mahiru Seki, whom she met in a bar. She has developed an obsessive dedication to him and is determined to make him her loyal servant. For a long time, she did not feel her heart race, but during a date with Mahiru at a movie theater, she experienced her heart pounding for the first time when their opinions matched, leaving her excited that her long-sought goal might finally be realized.

Kiku’s role in the story is that of a central antagonist whose past and present actions drive major conflicts. Her most significant past deed is being the architect of the destruction of Anko Uguisu’s family. This event became the driving force behind Anko’s crusade against all vampires, setting her on a path of revenge. In the present, her obsession with Mahiru puts her into direct conflict with others. Kou Yamori, Mahiru's best friend, views Kiku with suspicion and openly treats her as an enemy, believing she poses a danger to Mahiru. Nazuna Nanakusa also keeps her distance from Kiku, finding her difficult to deal with. While Kiku appears to want to liberate Mahiru from the struggles with his family, her true intention is to become the sole and entire world for the young man, isolating him for herself. This leads to direct confrontations, where her centuries of experience as a vampire give her a significant advantage.

As a veteran vampire, Kiku possesses all the standard supernatural abilities of her kind, including immortality, enhanced strength, and heightened senses. Her greatest and most dangerous talent, however, lies in seduction and psychological manipulation. She is a master at reading people and understanding their vulnerabilities, allowing her to sway even the most guarded individuals and make them渴望 to become her follower. Her emotional instability can sometimes be a liability, hindering her control over her servants, but her experience allows her to maintain composure in difficult situations. Notably, despite her ability to say the right thing, she cannot truly read minds.
