Description
"Onegai Teacher" is a 12-episode anime series that blends elements of romance, science fiction, and slice-of-life genres. The story centers on Kei Kusanagi, a high school student who suffers from a rare condition called "Hibernation Syndrome," causing him to fall into comatose states for extended periods. Due to his condition, Kei is socially isolated and struggles to connect with his peers. His life takes an unexpected turn when Mizuho Kazami, a mysterious and beautiful woman, moves into his rural town. Mizuho is revealed to be an alien sent to Earth on an observational mission, posing as a teacher at Kei's school.
The narrative unfolds as Kei accidentally discovers Mizuho's true identity during one of her missions. To prevent him from exposing her secret, Mizuho proposes a marriage of convenience, which Kei reluctantly agrees to. Despite the unconventional arrangement, their relationship gradually deepens as they navigate the challenges of keeping Mizuho's alien identity hidden while dealing with the complexities of their feelings for each other. The series explores themes of love, trust, and the struggle to find belonging, as both characters confront their personal insecurities and societal expectations.
Supporting characters include Kei's childhood friend, Ichigo Morino, who harbors unrequited feelings for him, and Mizuho's fellow alien, Koishi Herikawa, who provides comic relief and occasional insight into Mizuho's past. The story balances lighthearted moments with emotional depth, particularly in its portrayal of Kei's growth as he learns to overcome his fear of forming connections and Mizuho's journey in understanding human emotions. The series concludes with a focus on the evolving bond between Kei and Mizuho, leaving their future open-ended but hopeful.

1Tell Me - Teacher
One night,Kei Kusanagi lies by a lake and witnesses a UFO crash into the water. A woman emerges from the craft, and Kei flees in terror before losing consciousness. The next day at school, the same woman enters Kei's classroom as the new teacher, Mizuho Kazami. Kei recognizes her immediately, but she shows no sign of knowing him. After school, Kei discovers that Mizuho has moved into the house next door to his uncle's home. Kei offers to help her carry boxes, and inside her house, he trips and falls unconscious. When he wakes, he finds himself inside a strange, high-tech room, and Mizuho admits she is the alien from the lake. Mizuho transports Kei into her hidden spaceship to keep her identity secret. Kei panics and presses random controls, causing the ship to malfunction and become visible outside. Mizuho orders the ship's computer, Marie, to teleport them to safety, and they land inside Kei's bathtub. Kei's uncle discovers them there and demands an explanation. Later, Mizuho teleports Kei to the school's equipment room to discuss their situation privately. Two students enter to put away equipment and accidentally lock the door. Marie malfunctions and cannot teleport them out, trapping Kei and Mizuho inside. As they wait for rescue, Kei reveals his secret: he suffers from a "stasis" illness that causes him to freeze in time under stress, making him actually eighteen years old despite his appearance. Mizuho shares her mission as an observer from space. Kei's uncle finds them with the principal, and to protect Mizuho, Kei declares they are already married. The principal accepts the claim only after Kei admits his true age. The episode ends with Kei bound to the false marriage while his classmates remain unaware of Mizuho's extraterrestrial origin.
2I Can't Get Married Anymore
Kei and Mizuho wake up the morning after their encounter in the forest, both worried about the previous night's events. Mizuho fears someone might discover her extraterrestrial identity. Kei struggles to decide how to explain the situation to his uncle. The two meet again at school, where Mizuho now works as Kei's homeroom teacher. Their awkward interactions draw unwanted attention from other students and staff. Later that day, Kei and Mizuho accidentally become locked inside a school equipment shed. They remain trapped together overnight, unable to escape or call for help. The following morning, the school principal discovers them inside the shed. The principal misinterprets the situation and demands an explanation. To protect Mizuho's teaching position and her secret, Kei and Mizuho agree to a cover story that they are married. The episode ends with the two entering a contractual marriage arrangement, setting up the central conflict of hiding their relationship from everyone around them.
3This Isn't Right - Teacher
Kei stares at the marriage certificate on his desk while Mizuho showers in the adjacent room. He hesitates to sign the document. Mizuho exits the bathroom and Kei,surprised by her appearance, presses the stamp down and accidentally seals his signature. In the principal's office, the principal instructs Kei and Mizuho to keep their marriage a secret. The principal reveals that he also married a former student. At school, Hyosuke and other classmates notice Kei acting strangely in the classroom. On the way home, Minoru tells Kei that he must live with Mizuho in case the principal makes an unannounced inspection. Kei returns home to find Mizuho waiting in a wedding dress. Konoha explains that since the legal paperwork felt impersonal, a small ceremony would be appropriate. Minoru gives Kei a ring, and Kei places the ring on Mizuho's hand. The two lean in to kiss, but Hyosuke's voice calling from outside interrupts the moment. The episode ends with Kei and Mizuho legally married and living together, but their secret remains vulnerable to discovery by Kei's visiting friends.
4Actually - I Think I Love You
Kei sits at home watching television while Mizuho grades student papers nearby. Kei observes how differently Mizuho acts at home compared to her strict teacher persona at school. Kei thinks about how marriage reveals unknown sides of a spouse over time. Mizuho informs Kei that his grades have fallen and require improvement. In class,Mizuho calls on Kei for not paying attention. Hyosuke teases Kei afterward and shows everyone his test score of 97. The other students remark on the contradiction of Hyosuke's high academic performance against his poor practical intelligence. Hyosuke credits his success entirely to Mizuho's influence. Herikawa approaches Hyosuke and offers to help him. Kei and Mizuho notice Herikawa and Hyosuke talking together. Mizuho later speaks with Kei privately about his academic performance. On the way home, Kei's male friends joke that they should have failed the test so Mizuho would give them personal after-school attention. Kei returns home to find a recorded message from Mizuho stating she has a teachers' meeting and will arrive late, instructing him to go to "M" before the message cuts off abruptly. The incomplete message leaves Kei without clear instructions for the evening.
5For That Teacher - I...
Kei and Mizuho travel to Okinawa for their honeymoon. They check into a large hotel expecting privacy and relaxation. Upon arrival, they discover Kei's friends Hyosuke and the other classmates are staying at the same hotel. The newlyweds must avoid detection to keep their secret marriage from becoming public knowledge. Kei constantly scans his surroundings to prevent his friends from seeing him with Mizuho. Mizuho follows Kei's lead, staying out of sight whenever his friends approach the vicinity. The close quarters force the couple into increasingly difficult hiding situations throughout the hotel. One of Kei's female friends shows romantic interest in another member of the group, adding social complications to the trip. A young girl also manipulates events behind the scenes, creating additional risks of exposure for Kei and Mizuho. The constant fear of discovery strains the honeymoon atmosphere and prevents genuine intimacy. Kei and Mizuho struggle to find any private time together without interruption. The episode ends with their secret marriage still intact but the threat of exposure following them back home.
6Let's Begin After We Start

Meanwhile, Kei also deals with problems involving his friends Hyosuke and Kaede. He attempts to push the two friends toward admitting their romantic feelings for each other. The episode balances Kei's struggles with his new in-laws and his efforts to help his friends confront their own relationship. By the end, Maho's presence guarantees continued conflict in the Kazami household, setting Kei against a determined sister-in-law who refuses to accept him.
7Don't Cry Teacher
The school term resumes, and Maho continues her campaign against Kei. Mizuho walks in on Kei and Koishi in a compromising position, which disturbs her greatly. He takes active steps to help her escape the consequences of the setup. The episode builds toward a resolution that feels complete enough to serve as a final ending.
