Naoya Uchida is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on May 1, 1953, in Tokyo. He began his entertainment career at the age of fifteen when he joined the Wakakusa Theater Company. He made his professional debut as an on-screen actor in 1972 and pursued live-action roles for many years, appearing in television dramas, stage musicals, and tokusatsu series. A notable early role was as Tatsuya Midorikawa, also known as DenjiGreen, in the 1980 Super Sentai series Denshi Sentai Denjiman. Uchida also built a substantial career in theater, with a significant achievement being cast as Enjolras in the original Japanese production of the musical Les Misérables after a competitive audition.

Around the mid-1990s, Uchida shifted his professional focus toward voice acting, though he continued to apply the skills he honed in musicals, such as singing and dancing, to his new medium. In anime, he is known for his commanding and versatile voice, which allows him to portray a wide spectrum of characters, from authority figures and villains to more nuanced and charismatic individuals.

Uchida has played several iconic roles in major anime series. He is well-known as the voice of Soichiro Yagami in Death Note and its related projects. He has a long-standing association with the Getter Robo franchise, having voiced the character Jin Hayato in multiple productions, including Getter Robo Armageddon, Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo, New Getter Robo, and the 2021 series Getter Robo Arc. His other prominent roles include the ambitious warlord Oda Nobunaga in Drifters, the manipulative Daigo Kagemitsu in Dororo, and the complex and ruthless Askeladd in Vinland Saga. He also provided the voice for the character Jack Renfield in Moriarty the Patriot.

Beyond these works, his filmography demonstrates his range. He voiced the character Cobra in Cobra The Animation, Dr. Kenryuu Kodai in Dinosaur King, and Mendosa in The Mysterious Cities of Gold. In film, he has voiced Lance in the Appleseed XIII series and Montblanc Cricket in the One Piece: Episode of Skypiea special. He has also appeared in live-action roles later in his career, such as in the 2011 film Kami Voice.

In addition to anime, Uchida is highly active in the field of voice-over, or "fukikae," for foreign films and television series. He is the regular Japanese dubbing voice for several prominent Hollywood actors, including Bruce Willis, Woody Harrelson, and Andy García. This extensive dubbing work is a major part of his voice acting career and demonstrates his skill in adapting performances for a Japanese audience.

Uchida was previously affiliated with the talent agency Remax and is currently represented by Office Osawa.
