Description
Soranaki, also known as Overseer, originated as an ancient entity embodying a deep grudge stemming from a major falling-out with the Yo-kai princess Juno millennia ago. Steeped in resentment and hatred, he represents despair and thrives by absorbing negative emotions, growing stronger through others' hatred.
Depicted in *Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends* as a dormant force that nearly drove Yo-kai to extinction long ago, Soranaki manifests by possessing Shien, the son of Ancient Enma, during the Enma Budokai tournament. When Shien succumbs to despair, Soranaki envelops him, transforming him into the monstrous Maou Shien. This form wields immense power, allowing Soranaki to break dimensional barriers and unleash chaos across the Yo-kai and human worlds. He absorbs hatred from the human world to exponentially amplify his strength, summoning powerful servants like the eight-headed serpent Yamata no Orochi and the six-armed swordsman Ashura to combat his adversaries. His near-invincibility is evident as he withstands combined assaults from multiple deities, including Gunshin Susanoo (revealed as Shin's guardian spirit and late father) and Tsukuyomi (Tae's guardian spirit).
Soranaki's defeat occurs when Itsuki fuses with Shien's consciousness to become Yasha Enma, who destroys Soranaki using the divine sword Amenomurakumo. Despite this, remnants of Soranaki persist, briefly reemerging to attack Tae before being repelled by Tsukuyomi.
Beyond the film, Soranaki appears as the primary antagonist in *Yo-kai Watch 4* and the *Shadowside* anime series, evolving through three distinct forms:
- **Initial Form**: A dark mass resembling a sun with a central red eye, surrounded by purple clouds and wielding multiple spears. This form freezes time, petrifies enemies, and detaches limbs for combat.
- **Haten Soranaki**: A bulkier, multi-armed beast with seven eyes and a gaping mouth, unleashing energy beams and crystallization attacks that turn victims into crystal.
- **Maten Soranaki**: A pale humanoid oni with four horns, armored in black with intricate patterns, and enveloped in purple smoke. This form wields abilities like regeneration, dimensional entrapment, and energy projection.
In *Yo-kai Watch 4*, Soranaki petrifies Enma during an opening battle and later manipulates characters like Fukurou by exploiting their grief, granting them power in exchange for their sanity. After temporary defeats, he spreads Gloom—a corruption inciting hostility—across the future Yo-kai World and human world, culminating in a final battle at Mt. Wildwood's Sacred Tree. His abilities include viral mind control (infecting victims to serve as spies or agents), warping through dimensions, and regenerating from physical damage.
Soranaki's influence extends to spin-offs like *Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble*, where his forms are playable characters. Quotes from the game reflect his malevolent nature, demanding hatred to fuel his power and vowing to "guide the world to the black end".
