Description
Joun, an elderly beekeeper over fifty-five years of age, resides in the Shin-Oh region. He discovers Erin washed ashore after her escape from Ake Village and initially mistakes her for dead, contemplating burial before realizing she lives. With a sigh at the sight of her green eyes—recognizing the weight of responsibility they signify—he tends to her injuries and offers her shelter, his manner reserved though not unkind.

Once a teacher at a prestigious school, Joun chooses to educate Erin, teaching her to read and instructing her in the craft of harp-making. He shares his knowledge of the land, describing the rice-rich eastern territories of the Grand Duke, nourished by ample water, and contrasting them with the wheat-growing west of Shinoh. Over time, he develops a paternal care for Erin’s future, setting aside money for her marriage or education. He considers sending her to the academy but hesitates because of her Ahryoh lineage.

Suffering from heart trouble, Joun sees his son’s arrival as an omen and eventually arranges for Erin to move to Kazalm, where Ethal works, securing her a place to thrive. Through his guidance, Joun fosters Erin’s curiosity and intellect, grounding her during unstable years. His outlook—that happiness is fleeting and change constant—subtly influences her understanding of the world.
