Description
Oda Nobunaga is one of the central figures of the anime Drifters, appearing as part of the main trio alongside Shimazu Toyohisa and Nasu no Yoichi. He is a fictionalized version of the historical Japanese warlord of the same name, the Sengoku-period daimyo regarded as the first to take significant steps toward unifying Japan and among the first Japanese military commanders to employ arquebuses in large-scale battle. In the story, he is brought into the new world at the moment of his death in 1582, during the Honno-ji Incident, when his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide betrayed him and trapped him in a burning temple. Because his body was never recovered in recorded history, the story builds on that ambiguity to draw him into the fantasy setting. Despite having died historically about twenty years before his ally Shimazu Toyohisa, he has aged only roughly six months since arriving in the new world and appears as a middle-aged man.
Personality-wise, Nobunaga is highly intelligent and cunning, with a sharp analytical mind and a presence that can be intimidating. He is the strategist of the Drifters, managing most of the group's tactics and commanding its squad of arquebusiers. He is often theatrical in manner, blending arrogance, charm, and a confident, direct speaking style.
