Lucchetti's artistic foundation was built in theater. After various experiences with amateur dramatics in Genoa, he enrolled at the Teatro Stabile di Genova's school in 1981, graduating in 1984. He subsequently worked with both the Teatro Stabile and the newly formed Teatro dell'Archivolto, dedicating himself almost exclusively to prose theater until 1998. His move to Rome in 1987 marked his first forays into dubbing, which would eventually become his principal occupation after he paused his theatrical career in 1998.

Over the following decades, Lucchetti amassed an extensive body of work in dubbing, lending his voice to a vast array of characters in films, television series, and animated works. In the realm of anime, he became a recognizable voice for Italian audiences, taking on a wide variety of roles. He voiced the character Oruo Brossard in the film "Attack on Titan Part 2 – Jiyuu no Tsubasa". In Studio Ghibli's "When Marnie Was There," he was the voice of Kiyomasa, the kindly relative who hosts the protagonist Anna during her summer stay. His work for Studio Ghibli also included a role in "Only Yesterday" as Kazuo.

Lucchetti's voice was featured in several other notable anime productions. He played Yoichi Hanasaki in the magical girl series "Heartcatch Precure!" and its associated franchise entries. He voiced the demon Kawa in the film "A Letter to Momo" and took on the role of Sebastian in "Glitter Force Doki Doki". His repertoire further included the character Berial in "Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children," Benois in "My Patrasche," and roles in long-running series such as "Hunter x Hunter" (as Bodoro and Satotsu) and "Fairy Tail" (as Bob and Zoldeo).

Beyond these specific credits, Lucchetti's anime voice work was remarkably diverse, encompassing characters in productions like "The Ancient Magus' Bride" as Joel Garland, "Death Parade" as Takashi, "Drifters" as Oda Nobunaga, and various installments of the "Lupin the 3rd" franchise. He was also the voice of Wiseman in "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal" and Wolf Frakken in "Star Blazers 2199".

Parallel to his anime roles, Lucchetti enjoyed a prolific career dubbing live-action films and series. He was the regular Italian voice for actors such as Antonio de la Torre, Paddy Considine, and Brían F. O'Byrne. He also dubbed Shaun Toub in "Iron Man," Campbell Scott in "The Amazing Spider-Man" films, and Kevin Spacey in "Beyond the Sea". His extensive filmography includes hundreds of credits, demonstrating his versatility and constant presence in the industry.

Sergio Lucchetti was married to dialogist and dubbing director Emanuela Amato, with whom he had two children, Francesco and Alessandro. He also had two children, Ilaria and Lorenzo, from a previous relationship. Sergio Lucchetti passed away on January 27, 2026, in Rome at the age of 67, leaving behind a substantial legacy in Italian dubbing and entertainment.
