Description
In the anime Hand Maid May, Cyberdoll Sara is a model of cyberdoll produced by the Cyberdyne Corporation, identified by her model number Af-773LC-CHN, with the CHN designation indicating her country-specific configuration. She is distinguished by her physical appearance, often described as a foxy young woman with dark skin and an elf-like or exotic quality, which sets her apart from several other cyberdolls in the series. Her typical attire is noted as a form-fitting, alluring Chinese dress that complements her overall aesthetic.

Sara’s personality is defined by a pragmatic and straightforward approach to her duties, combined with a notable personal indulgence. She serves as a debt collector for the Cyberdyne Corporation, tasked with recovering payment for cyberdolls that have been ordered or, if payment cannot be made, repossessing the units themselves. In carrying out this role, she is efficient and no-nonsense, but she is not without her quirks. Her most defining character trait is an immense, almost obsessive love for ramen, which she consumes in vast quantities. This craving is shown to be so powerful that it can override her professional objectives, as she is easily persuaded to partner with others in exchange for a seemingly endless supply of the dish.

Sara’s primary motivation is the successful completion of her assignments, initially focused on collecting the substantial fee for the cyberdoll May from the protagonist, Kazuya Saotome. However, her personal desire for ramen frequently intermingles with her work, leading her to form temporary and convenient alliances. In the story, she acts as an instigator for much of the early conflict, consistently pressuring Kazuya to pay his debt. When her own efforts are complicated, she escalates the situation by dispatching other cyberdolls, such as Rena and Kei, to intervene and retrieve May. Her key relationship is with Kazuya’s self-proclaimed rival, Nanbara. Both share an interest in making Kazuya’s life difficult, and Sara agrees to work with Nanbara specifically to enjoy watching Kazuya’s despair, all while indulging in her love for ramen, which Nanbara provides.

In terms of character development, Sara remains largely static throughout the series. Her core personality as a Ramen-obsessed, efficient collector does not undergo a significant transformation. Her role is primarily functional to the plot, serving as an agent of the Cyberdyne Corporation who applies pressure and introduces new characters and complications into Kazuya’s life. While other cyberdolls like May and Kei experience emotional growth and question their programming, Sara’s objectives and demeanor stay consistently focused on her mission and her appetite.

Sara possesses several notable abilities that make her an effective operative. While not the most intellectually advanced model—she is outmatched in processing power by Cyberdoll Kei, who has an equivalent human IQ of 5,000—Sara has significant physical capabilities. She demonstrates superhuman strength, with the ability to punch through steel plating up to thirty millimeters thick. Like all cyberdolls in the series, she is much more than a simple machine; cyberdolls are presented as sophisticated biological and mechanical entities with tear ducts, digestive systems, and the capacity to eat and drink, as evidenced by her ramen consumption. Her model is an adult-form unit, which contrasts with the child-form of models like Rena and the customized prototype nature of May. This combination of strength, durability, and a singular personal drive makes Cyberdoll Sara a memorable and effective character within the narrative.
