Cinzia De Carolis
Description
Cinzia De Carolis is an accomplished Italian actress and voice actress, born in Rome on March 22, 1960. She began her career as a child actress in the late 1960s, appearing in numerous Italian films throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including notable roles in productions such as Dario Argento's The Cat o' Nine Tails. From the 1990s onward, she transitioned to focus primarily on voice acting, becoming one of the most recognized and prolific voices in the Italian dubbing industry for anime and animated series.
De Carolis is perhaps best known for providing the Italian voice of Oscar François de Jarjayes, the protagonist of the iconic anime series The Rose of Versailles (known in Italy as Lady Oscar), as well as for the compilation film The Rose of Versailles: I'll Love You As Long As I Live. This role has cemented her status as a beloved figure among Italian fans of classic anime. Another signature role from the same era is the title character in Hello! Sandybell, which she voiced for its first Italian broadcast on RAI.
Her extensive filmography demonstrates a remarkable range, encompassing a wide variety of characters across different genres. In the universe of Leiji Matsumoto, she has voiced the enigmatic space captain Emeraldas in both Arcadia of My Youth and the Queen Emeraldas series, and also took on the role of Maetel (here called Maysha) in the first part of Galaxy Express 999. In the cyberpunk OVA Battle Angel, she voiced the complex character Chiren. She is also the Italian voice of the villainous Kagura in the InuYasha series and its films, and has voiced Sir Integra Hellsing in Hellsing, Ryoko in various Tenchi Muyo! productions, and Haman Karn in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
Beyond her work in front of the microphone, Cinzia De Carolis has also contributed extensively behind the scenes. She has served as a dubbing director and dialogue adapter for numerous series, overseeing the Italian adaptations of Ranma ½, Excel Saga, Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances), and Summer Time Rendering, among others. Her more recent anime roles include the Grandma in the anthology film Flavors of Youth and the mother of Philip in the new dubbing of My Patrasche.
