Description
Alexiel is a central figure in the narrative of Angel Sanctuary, known as the Organic Angel. She is one of the most powerful beings in Heaven, possessing three wings, and holds the status of one of the two highest-ranking angels, equal in rank to her twin brother, Rosiel, the Inorganic Angel. She was born from the holy hermit Adam Kadmon as part of a divine experiment to split the powers of the Seraphita.

Her background is rooted in a profound tragedy orchestrated by God. When she and Rosiel were born, Rosiel was a soul without a proper body. Out of deep love for her brother, Alexiel made a pact with God to grant him a physical form. The price of this agreement was severe: she was forbidden from ever speaking to Rosiel, approaching him, or showing him her true feelings of sisterly love. To enforce this, she was imprisoned in the Garden of Eden, also known as Briah, and forced to eat the fruit of the Tree of Life, which was grown from the flesh of their mother, Adam Kadmon. This isolation and the constant act of consuming the fruit were damning experiences, intended to keep her silent and separate from her brother.

While on the surface Alexiel is often described by others as a cold, callous, and terrible warrior who loves only battle and violence, her true personality is far more complex. Beneath this exterior, she is an extremely caring individual who lacks the ability to properly express her emotions, a direct consequence of the traumatic isolation and conditions imposed upon her from birth. Her only known way to stop suffering was through killing, which became her primary method of showing affection, though her intentions were always pure. She is not the emotionless rebel she is made out to be; rather, she is a deeply compassionate being whose rebellion was an act of love.

Her motivations are almost entirely driven by her love for Rosiel, despite being forced to hide it. The common perception that she was jealous of God's love for Rosiel is a lie she maintained to protect her brother. In truth, she rebelled against God specifically because she knew of the cruel, destructive fate God had planned for Rosiel. Her goal was to eliminate the Creator to save her brother from his predestined role as an angel of destruction. Her rebellion was not born of jealousy but of a desperate, concealed love.

Alexiel’s role in the story unfolds long before the main events begin. After meeting and being freed from Eden by Lucifer, she led a revolt against the corrupt practices of Heaven, disgusted by the angels who committed atrocities in God's name. However, when she finally confronted her brother Rosiel, she lost her resolve and could not kill him as he had once asked. Instead, she sealed his decaying and insane body within the Earth. For her treason, she was captured and put on trial. As punishment, her body was imprisoned in an angel crystal, and her soul was sentenced to an endless cycle of reincarnation into human lives, each one destined to be miserable and end in a slow, painful death.

The current incarnation of Alexiel's soul is the human boy Setsuna Mudo. While Setsuna is her reincarnation and can access her immense astral powers, Alexiel and Setsuna are distinct personalities. Alexiel is shown to have great faith in Setsuna, treating him as a separate individual rather than an extension of herself, and is very protective of him. Throughout the series, there are rare moments when Alexiel's consciousness reawakens within Setsuna, typically during moments of great crisis, such as when he falls into the river Lethe in Hell or at the final confrontation with Rosiel.

Regarding her key relationships, the most significant is with her twin brother, Rosiel. He is her absolute priority, and everything she does is ultimately for his sake. Her relationship with Lucifer is also pivotal. He was sent to corrupt and kill her as revenge against God, but after meeting her, he changed his mind and instead freed her from Eden. While Lucifer's obsessive affection for her is well-documented, the exact nature of Alexiel's romantic feelings for him remain ambiguous and are never explicitly confirmed, though there are hints of mutual affection. She also formed a bond with Princess Kurai of the Evil Kingdom, whom Alexiel saved from assault, leading Kurai to look up to her with deep admiration and love.

Throughout her development, Alexiel's arc moves from a passive victim of divine blackmail to an active rebel, and finally to a being who accepts her feelings. Initially concealing her love to save Rosiel, she eventually confesses her true feelings to him directly. In the final resolution, she does not kill her brother as he once begged, but instead kills him to absorb his decaying body into her own womb, where her organic powers will constantly regenerate him forever, finally granting him peace and keeping him with her eternally.

Alexiel possesses a number of notable abilities. She wields an incredible level of astral power, capable of destroying wide areas with little exertion and sensing the presence of other angels and demons regardless of their attempts to hide. She is a highly skilled battle warrior. Due to her unique connection to Rosiel, she is the only angel who can kill him safely and then reabsorb him into her body to heal and regenerate him. Her regenerative properties are powerful enough to allow her body to recover quickly, and her flesh was even used by Rosiel to construct his own beautiful appearance. However, she is not invincible; she can be overpowered, as demonstrated when the archangel Uriel helped pass a verdict against her, leading to her imprisonment.
