Description
"Battle Angel" is set in a dystopian future where society is sharply divided between the floating city of Zalem and the Scrapyard below. The narrative centers on Gally, a cyborg girl discovered in the Scrapyard by a cybermedic named Daisuke Ido. Gally has no memory of her past but possesses extraordinary combat abilities. Ido repairs her and takes her in, treating her as a surrogate daughter. Gally becomes entangled in the harsh realities of the Scrapyard, where survival often depends on violence and exploitation.

The Scrapyard is a lawless, impoverished wasteland where bounty hunters, known as Hunter-Warriors, track down criminals for rewards. Gally, driven by a sense of justice and a desire to protect the innocent, becomes a Hunter-Warrior herself. Her journey brings her into conflict with powerful figures, including Vector, a manipulative businessman with ties to Zalem, and Grewcica, a former Hunter-Warrior turned criminal. Gally’s combat skills and determination make her a formidable opponent, but she also grapples with questions about her identity and purpose.

As the story progresses, Gally learns more about her origins and the mysterious connection between Zalem and the Scrapyard. Zalem, a utopian city hovering above the Scrapyard, is governed by an enigmatic ruler and maintains its dominance by exploiting the Scrapyard’s resources and people. Gally’s encounters with Zalem’s agents and technology reveal the extent of the city’s control and the moral compromises required to maintain its power. The narrative explores themes of inequality, identity, and the consequences of technological advancement.

Key characters include Daisuke Ido, who serves as a father figure to Gally and provides insight into the ethical dilemmas of cybernetic enhancement; Vector, whose ambitions drive much of the conflict; and Yugo, a young man from the Scrapyard who dreams of reaching Zalem and becomes a close ally to Gally. The series balances action-packed sequences with moments of introspection, as Gally navigates her dual roles as a protector and a seeker of truth. The story’s blend of cyberpunk aesthetics, moral complexity, and character-driven drama has made it a notable entry in the genre.
