OVA
Description
Vector hails from a destitute village on the Scrapyard's fringes, arriving roughly four decades before "Last Order." He survives and ascends to lead a criminal empire as the foremost broker in illicit human organs and body parts, supplying Tiphares through monthly shipments. His enterprise later diversifies into materials from Factory Farms and Badlands mines. After the Factory system's collapse, he becomes the Scrapyard's dominant power, crucial for restoring stability following Tiphares' civil war.
Tall, thin, and dark-skinned, Vector is seldom without sunglasses. Bald and initially clean-shaven, he later grows a beard and mustache. A Barjack assassination attempt leaves him wheelchair-bound. His style transitions from business suits to patterned robes and scarves in later years, often with a cigar.
Vector instantly detects lies by studying eyes, a skill vital to his survival and business. Despite criminal dealings, he follows a personal code of honor: repeatedly offering Hugo a lucrative supply route, killing one of Hugo’s victims upon hearing Hugo’s name, and sheltering Hugo after Zapan exposes his thefts. He funds Koyomi’s father’s treatment and provides them housing to repay her for saving his life. His Scrapyard order efforts stem from business interests, not altruism.
Respect for Hugo ignites when Hugo trades his hand for his brother’s with Vector’s dealer. Unable to refute a false claim about Tiphares access, Vector demands 10 million chips for passage—an impossible sum meant to deter Hugo. Years later, confronted, Vector admits the deception but offers Hugo legitimate supply route management.
Vector initially dismisses Kaos’ Tower of Tiphares plan. After Kaos’ radio broadcasts, Vector tests him by clamping a metal cuff linking Kaos’ wrist to throat, disabling the arm. Keeping the key, he challenges Kaos to return in a year. Witnessing Kaos’ resolve after defeating Pizmo, Vector invests in the Tower. They later collaborate to broadcast the Zenith of Things Tournament, with Vector organizing betting pools and proposing a governance wager.
Koyomi spares Vector from Barjack execution. Years on, he aids her family to repay this debt.
In the OVA, Vector controls Tiphares exports via Factory Tubes and runs a human organ black market. Managing Coliseum gladiators, he hires Chiren to enhance them. When she fails to recruit Alita, Vector has her killed and harvested for Zalem’s quota. Confronting Ido, Vector is impaled and killed by Zaariki’s detached arm.
The live-action film casts Vector as Nova’s proxy, managing Motorball and Factory operations under a mind-control bargain. He recruits Chiren with Zalem return promises and enlists Hugo to steal cyborg parts. After Alita survives Nova’s enforcers, Vector sends Hunter-Warriors to kill her during Motorball tryouts. Chiren’s betrayal leads Vector to harvest her organs for Nova. Summoning Grewishka against Alita, he watches her destroy it. Nova then speaks through Vector, threatening Alita’s friends, provoking her to stab him fatally. Nova deems his death trivial.
The "Gunnm: Martian Memory" video game includes Vector but omits his Zaariki threat to Hugo and Alita.
