OVA
Description
Vector is a prominent Scrapyard businessman, his exact name origin unspecified. As the top broker in the Scrapyard's illegal trade, he specializes in trafficking human body parts and organs, supplying Tiphares with a monthly quota equivalent to one person's worth. His operations later expand to brokering resources from Factory Farms and mines in the Badlands for the Factory.

Tall, slender, and dark-skinned, Vector is completely bald and almost always wears sunglasses. He is initially clean-shaven but later grows a beard and mustache. After surviving a Barjack assassination attempt, he becomes wheelchair-bound. His attire evolves from business suits to patterned robes and scarves in his later years, and he is often seen smoking cigars.

Despite his criminal dealings, Vector adheres to a personal code of honor. He repeatedly offers Hugo management of a lucrative Factory supply route, kills one of Hugo's victims upon hearing Hugo's name, and provides Hugo shelter after Zapan exposes him as a spinal-column thief. His efforts to maintain Scrapyard order after the Factory's collapse stem from pragmatic self-interest, as his business empire depends on the city's stability.

Vector's relationships are transactional, based on loyalty and reciprocity. He respects Hugo after Hugo trades his own hand for his brother's during a deal with Vector's street dealer. This encounter leads Vector to falsely claim he visited Tiphares, perpetuating the lie to save face, and he promises Hugo passage for 10 million chips. He later collaborates with Kaos, initially dismissing Kaos's Tower of Tiphares proposal but testing his resolve by cuffing Kaos's wrist to his throat for a year. When Kaos returns transformed, Vector invests in the project. After Koyomi saves him from Barjack execution, Vector repays her by funding her father's leg surgery and housing her family.

His survival and rise to power are aided by a unique ability: instantaneous truth discernment via eye contact, applicable to humans and cyborgs. This skill, developed in his youth, underpins his business empire and influence, making him the Scrapyard's de facto ruler post-Factory collapse.

Vector's history begins when he approves Hugo's trade of his hand for his brother's. Three years later, he offers Hugo a supply-route management position, which Hugo declines. When confronted by Alita and Hugo about his Tiphares lie, Vector admits the deception, believing Hugo would abandon his dream due to the impossible fee. He unleashes his bodyguard Zaariki, though Alita defeats him. Years later, Vector survives a Barjack ambush at Factory Farm 15 due to Koyomi's intervention but is left wheelchair-bound. Post-Factory collapse, he partners with Kaos to stabilize the Scrapyard. During the Zenith of Things Tournament broadcast, he simplifies Kaos's complex messaging by introducing betting, wagering against Kaos for control of the Scrapyard.

In other adaptations, Vector's portrayal diverges. The OVA depicts him controlling Factory exports and coliseum gladiators. He recruits Alita as a gladiator by leveraging Hugo's safety and coins her "Battle Angel" moniker. After Chiren fails to recruit her, Vector harvests her organs for Tiphares. He is killed when Zaariki's severed arm impales him during a fight with Ido. The live-action film positions him as Nova's proxy and Factory overseer, manipulating Hugo and orchestrating Motorball. He is killed by Alita after Nova threatens her friends through him.
