Alberto Trifol

Description
Alberto Trifol was a prominent Spanish voice actor known for his extensive work in dubbing, particularly for anime series and films during the 1990s and early 2000s. Born Albert Trifol Verdú on March 8, 1944, in Barcelona, Spain, he trained at the city's Instituto del Teatro and began his career in dubbing during the 1960s, a field in which he would achieve significant recognition. He passed away in Barcelona on May 16, 2005.

His voice became closely associated with several live-action actors in Spanish dubs produced in Barcelona, including John Holmes, Jim Broadbent, and Jacques Villeret. However, Trifol also left a substantial mark on the world of anime, providing voices for a wide array of characters in many titles distributed in Spain.

In 1989, he founded the dubbing studio Q. T. Lever in Barcelona. This studio went on to become a key player in the localization of Japanese animation for the Spanish market, handling the dubbing for numerous anime projects in which Trifol himself often participated. His work frequently involved collaborations with other voice actors who became regulars in the anime dubbing scene, such as María Pilar Quesada, Oriol Rafel, and Mario Arpal. His children, Nuria Trifol and Albert Trifol Segarra, also became well-known voice actors and frequently worked alongside him.

Trifol's anime voice roles were varied, often encompassing authority figures, villains, and quirky side characters. He voiced Murphy in the comedy OVA Maris the Chojo, based on the work of Rumiko Takahashi. In the space opera Lensman, he took on the role of Lord Helmuth. He played the character Pinch in Panda no Daibōken and was the voice of Tinzin in the first episode of the supernatural horror OVA 3x3 Eyes Seima Densetsu. For the fantasy epic The Heroic Legend of Arslan, he voiced the captured king, Andragoras. He also appeared in the Project A-ko sequel, Project A-ko 2: Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group, as the enigmatic character D. His other anime credits include Kerachi in Orguss 02, Takeshi Suzuka in Odin: Starlight Mutiny, the Police Chief in New Dominion Tank Police, and Vector in Battle Angel (also known as Gunnm). He was also part of the casts for Mad Bull 34, Mini Pato, Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II: The Movie, A Wind Named Amnesia, and 8 Man After, often taking on roles like guards or officials.

Through his prolific career as an actor and his foundational work as a studio founder and director, Alberto Trifol was a central figure in establishing the voice of anime for a generation of Spanish viewers. His legacy continues through his children and the many classic anime dubs produced at his studio.
