Description
Fee Carmichael is the American pilot and commander of the debris collection spacecraft known as the Toy Box, and later its successor, the Toy Box 2, operating out of the ISPV 7 space station. Born in Richmond, Virginia on March 9, 2039, she is the daughter of a prominent lawyer. Her professional journey in space began after graduating from the Faculty of Social Welfare at South Florida State University in March 2063, when she joined Dolph Azalia's Traom Space Development Company. Following the company's acquisition in April 2065, she moved to Technora, initially working in the Business Division before obtaining her license to pilot lunar craft in December of that year. She was transferred to the Debris Section at the ISPV 7 space station in September 2068 and later became licensed to pilot 2B grade model aerospace craft in December 2070.
In terms of personality, Fee presents a fiery and outspoken exterior that can easily be mistaken for abrasiveness. She is described as being even more loud and brash than her colleague Hachimaki, and she often reacts to the actions or inactions of others with sudden violence. Despite this intimidating demeanor, she consistently demonstrates that she has the best interests of her teammates at heart, displaying genuine leadership qualities that contrast sharply with her bumbling superiors. She has a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to problems and often provides a grounding perspective within her team. While maintaining a tough exterior, she also possesses a sense of humor and a maternal side, particularly when looking after her younger colleagues.
One of Fee's most defining characteristics is her heavy smoking habit, which she is slightly ashamed of but which forms a central part of her daily routine. Smoking in space is a significant strain on life support systems, so it is heavily restricted to designated smoking rooms, a limitation that frequently makes her irritable. This irritation is amplified dramatically when all smoking rooms are eventually shut down after the SDF begins planting bombs inside them. To cope, she uses an enclosed personal smokers seat, though this device is prone to inadvertent sabotage by her crewmates.
Fee serves as the commander and pilot of the debris collection vessel, a role in which she skillfully navigates the dangers of orbital debris to ensure the success of her teams missions. She is generally calm, rational, and listens to the opinions of her subordinates, even willing to go against orders from central command when she feels it is necessary. Outside of her professional life, Fee is married and has a young son, with her family living in Florida on Earth, though she spends very little time there due to the demands of her job in space. Colleagues, such as Gigalt, have given her the nickname Turbolighter, a reference to both her position and her persistent need for a flame. Her experience and competence make her a respected figure, balancing the challenges of debris collection with the complex personal dynamics of her crew.
