Description
Arianne Borbach was a German actress and voice artist whose career spanned over four decades, from the early 1970s until her passing in 2024. While she was a versatile performer on stage and screen, she became particularly well-known to German audiences for her extensive voice work, lending her voice to numerous international film and television productions, including a significant number of anime series and films.

Born in Bernau, Germany in 1962, Borbach initially trained as an electromechanic before pursuing her passion for performance at the prestigious Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch in Berlin. Her acting career began on stage, and she became a permanent ensemble member at the Theater der Freundschaft in East Berlin until 1992. Concurrently, she started appearing in film and television productions for the DEFA and East German television, earning critical acclaim, including a best actress award at the National Feature Film Festival of the DDR for her titular role in the 1987 film Liane.

She became the official German dubbing voice for several high-profile international stars, including Cate Blanchett, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Michelle Yeoh. This voice work naturally extended to anime, where she contributed to the German-language versions of many prominent series and films.

Her other anime credits include a role as Seymour in an episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, a part in Karas, and a role in the series More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers. This body of work demonstrates her active participation in bringing Japanese animation to German-speaking audiences.

Throughout her long career, Arianne Borbach accumulated over 30 film and television acting credits and hundreds of roles as a voice actor. Her contributions were not limited to screen work; she was also an active performer in radio dramas, particularly with the label Titania Medien.
