Description
Kerberos, often called Kero-chan or simply Kero by his friends, is one of the two guardians of the Clow Cards. He was created by the powerful magician Clow Reed to serve as the "Beast of the Seal" and to act as the "Selector," responsible for choosing the candidate worthy of becoming the next master of the cards. His name and general concept are derived from Cerberus, the three-headed hound of Greek mythology, though his appearance and personality are a significant departure from the fearsome original. For a long period, the book containing the Clow Cards was kept in Osaka, which is why Kerberos speaks with a distinct Kansai dialect.
In terms of personality, Kerberos is cheerful, outgoing, and often acts as the comic relief. He is known for being bossy, demanding, and a glutton, with an insatiable love for sweets, including cake, cookies, and chocolates, as well as video games. Despite his small and often childish demeanor, he is remarkably intelligent and possesses extensive knowledge of the Clow Cards, magical theory, and the ability to read magical auras. Underneath his self-proclaimed "cool" and sometimes egotistical exterior lies a deep and genuine care for his master, Sakura Kinomoto. He dislikes dwelling on sad or lonely things, preferring loud and fun activities, but he is not immune to worry, as he was deeply anxious about the Final Judgment and the well-being of his fellow guardian, Yue.
Kerberos’s primary motivation is the successful completion of his duties as a guardian. This includes ensuring the Clow Cards are captured and that the appointed Cardcaptor passes the Final Judgment to become the new master. He is fiercely loyal to Sakura, whom he initially chose as the Cardcaptor after she accidentally released the cards. His role in the story is that of a mentor and guide, teaching Sakura the basics of magic and how to use the Sealing Wand to capture the cards. He provides constant support, comic relief, and crucial strategic advice during battles. Throughout the series, he acts as the bridge between Sakura and the magical world she has entered.

As Sakura successfully captures the elemental cards The Firey and The Earthy, Kerberos's full power is gradually restored. By the time of the second movie, he has regained the ability to assume his true form at will: a massive, majestic, maneless lion with enormous white angelic wings and a metal chest plate adorned with a large red jewel. In this form, his magical powers are at their peak.
