Description
In the film Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, the character of General Blue is reimagined from his role as a villainous Red Ribbon Army officer and placed within a new setting. This version of the character serves as a high-ranking officer in the military of the kingdom of Mifan, where he is known as Lieutenant Blue. He is a tall, blond-haired man with a handsome, sculpted appearance, but for this film, he wears a distinctive uniform that differs from his usual attire, blending elements of a samurai and a Roman centurion to reflect his allegiance to the Mifan Empire.
In this story, Blue’s personality is notably different from his original manga and anime counterpart. While he can be harsh, he is portrayed as a fair and genuinely loyal soldier dedicated to protecting the young Emperor Chiaotzu. This version lacks the narcissistic, cruel, and overtly flamboyant mannerisms that define his original character, and his implied sexuality is not referenced at all in the film. Instead of being a primary antagonist for Goku, Blue acts as a force for order within the corrupt Mifan court. His main motivation is to safeguard the emperor and expose the treachery of the tyrannical Minister Shen, who plans to assassinate Chiaotzu and seize control of the kingdom.
General Blue's primary role in the film is to act as a catalyst for the plot's central conflict. He discovers and publicly announces that the missing Ran Ran, a doll beloved by Emperor Chiaotzu, is being held captive in Minister Shen's private quarters. By exposing Shen's deception, Blue attempts to turn the court against the minister. However, this act of defiance leads directly to his demise. As punishment for his insubordination and for threatening Shen's schemes, the minister's brother, the deadly assassin Tao Pai Pai, steps forward. In a swift and brutal confrontation, Tao Pai Pai kills General Blue with his signature technique, striking his temple with a lethal tongue attack.
Regarding his key relationships, Blue's most significant interaction is with his killer, Tao Pai Pai. He does not form any meaningful connections with the main protagonists, such as Goku, Krillin, or Bulma. His loyalty is directed solely toward Emperor Chiaotzu, setting him in opposition to the primary villains of the film, Master Shen and Tao Pai Pai. Unlike his original series counterpart, who is a recurring pest for Goku, this version of Blue shows no development, as his narrative purpose is cut short by his early death.
In terms of notable abilities, the film does not provide Blue with an opportunity to showcase his skills. While he is known in the main series as a formidable martial artist and one of the most powerful members of the Red Ribbon Army, he does not engage in any significant fights in Mystical Adventure. This version of the character is also not shown using the powerful psychic abilities, such as telekinesis and paralysis, for which he is famous in the original manga and anime. He is defeated and killed by Tao Pai Pai without putting up a fight, serving primarily to demonstrate the assassin's fearsome power and ruthless nature.
