Description
Android n° 8, also known as Eighter, is a major character in the tenth-anniversary film Dragon Ball: The Path to Power, which reinterprets the early story of the series. In this movie, he is presented as a powerful android created by the Red Ribbon Army and stationed as a final line of defense within Muscle Tower under the command of General White. His physical design closely resembles that of Frankenstein's monster, featuring a large, stocky frame, short dark blue hair, a prominent brow, visible stitching on his forehead and cheek, and a generally imposing and brutish appearance.

In this particular adaptation, Android n° 8 initially displays a personality that differs from his more docile original series counterpart. When first activated, he acts as a mindless brute, following General White's orders without question and launching a fierce attack on the young Son Goku, demonstrating flight, incredible speed, and enough strength to nearly kill the boy. However, this aggressive state is short-lived. The android quickly regains his emotional awareness and moral compass, refusing to continue fighting Goku. This act of defiance leads General White to label him a failed experiment and attempt to detonate a bomb inside him, a plan thwarted by Goku, who saves the android's life.

Following this event, Android n° 8 reveals his true, kind-hearted nature. He is a gentle and cheerful being who detests violence and cruelty, preferring peaceful activities such as playing in the snow, where he joyfully engages in a snowball fight with Goku. It is during this moment of friendship that Goku gives him the affectionate nickname Eighter. His primary motivation shifts from serving the Red Ribbon Army to protecting his new friend. Unlike the original story, this version of Android n° 8 is more willing to fight when necessary to defend others.

His key relationship is, without a doubt, with Goku. The boy's unwavering kindness and refusal to let the Red Ribbon Army destroy him forge a deep bond of loyalty. This relationship culminates in the film's climax, where Android n° 8 makes the ultimate sacrifice. After Goku is knocked unconscious by Commander Black in a massive battle jacket mecha, Android n° 8 arrives and charges at the giant robot, valiantly holding it back to save his friend. Despite knowing he is outmatched, he willingly gives his life to protect Goku, a heroic sacrifice that pushes Goku into a rage-powered state strong enough to defeat Commander Black.

This act of selflessness is his most significant development, as it transforms him from a potential weapon into a true hero. His story concludes on a hopeful note, as Goku uses the Dragon Balls to wish him back to life. As part of the wish, the explosive device inside his chest is permanently removed, allowing him to live freely. In terms of notable abilities, this version of Android n° 8 is presented as exceptionally powerful. He possesses the ability to fly at great speeds, a feature not commonly associated with his original design. He demonstrates superhuman strength, capable of dashing at high velocity and nearly killing Goku in their first encounter. He also shows remarkable durability, fighting against a giant, building-sized mecha that had previously proven too strong for Goku, and manages to push it back. His internal bomb, while a weakness, also grants him the potential for a devastating self-destruction attack.
