Description
Dorodavo, also known as Wings, is a supporting antagonist from the 1991 animated film Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug. He is a large, imposing, gargoyle-like humanoid with rough brown skin and a pair of functional wings, a physical design reminiscent of other brutish henchmen in the series. As a high-ranking member of Lord Slugs Demon Clan, Dorodavo serves as one of the tyrants most trusted elite soldiers, assigned to assist in the subjugation of Earth and the collection of the Dragon Balls.
In terms of personality, Dorodavo is cruel, boastful, and carries an air of arrogant self-assurance, a common trait among underlings who draw confidence from their masters overwhelming power. He is fiercely loyal to Lord Slug, carrying out orders without hesitation and firmly believing in his masters invincibility. Despite his brutish nature, he displays a degree of cunning and opportunism. He is not entirely devoid of intelligence, as he attempts to use psychological tactics in battle, specifically appealing to a sense of camaraderie with his opponent. However, this is undercut by a tendency to underestimate his foes, which leads directly to his downfall.
Dorodavos primary motivation is to serve Lord Slugs ambition of universal conquest. He harbors no independent goals beyond fulfilling his duties as a soldier and eliminating the enemies of his master. His role in the story is to act as a significant physical obstacle for the secondary hero, Piccolo. While Goku and the others confront Lord Slug, Dorodavo engages Piccolo in a one-on-one battle designed to showcase Piccolos growth and ruthlessness. In his only major fight, Dorodavo initially presents a threat due to his raw power and aerial mobility, but he is quickly overwhelmed. His key relationships are defined strictly by his place in Lord Slugs hierarchy: he is subservient to Slug, a rival colleague to the frog-like Medamatcha and the stretchy-limbed Angila, and an enemy to the Z-Fighters. Notably, he shows a momentary, if miscalculated, respect for Piccolo, seeing him as a kindred spirit due to his demonic heritage.
Dorodavo does not undergo any significant character development or redemption arc. He remains a static figure of villainy whose primary narrative function is to be defeated in combat. His most prominent moment comes after he is physically broken by Piccolo, who crushes and snaps his arm. Realizing he cannot win, Dorodavo surrenders and attempts to recruit Piccolo, suggesting they join forces under Lord Slug. He mistakenly interprets Piccolos extended hand as acceptance of this truce, only to be executed point-blank by a ki blast to the face, which destroys his head and kills him instantly.
Regarding notable abilities, Dorodavos most distinctive trait is his natural flight, facilitated by the large wings on his back, which grants him superior mobility in combat. He possesses superhuman strength, enough to easily defeat a younger Son Gohan with a single blow. He is also proficient in ki manipulation, capable of firing basic energy blasts and utilizing a physical technique called Evil Gravity, a powerful right-handed punch. Despite this arsenal, his battle power proved utterly inferior to Piccolos at that stage, making him a mid-tier threat at best relative to the films main cast.
