Description
Mitsuyoshi Tada is a second-year high school student at Ginga University Affiliated Koinohoshi High School. He lives with his grandfather, his younger sister Yui, and the family cat Nyanko Big in a corner of Ginza, Tokyo. After losing his parents in a car accident during childhood, he was raised by his grandfather and works part-time at the family-run Tada Coffee shop. He is a member of the school's photography club and aspires to become a professional photographer like his late father, specializing in capturing atmospheric pictures. He uses a Nikon D7200 camera and carries with him the last photo his father took as a keepsake.
Mitsuyoshi has a calm, reserved, and introspective personality. He is quiet by nature, often observing his surroundings with a gentle and contemplative demeanor. Despite his stoic exterior, he is deeply kind, hardworking, and attentive to the needs of those around him. He rarely speaks much, but when he does, his actions consistently show a practical and caring approach to helping others. Those close to him sometimes envy his ability to remain true to himself and his sharp awareness of the mood of a situation.
Initially, Mitsuyoshi claims to have no interest in romance, stating that love is not something he concerns himself with. This mindset stems in part from the emotional guardedness that followed the loss of his parents. His role in the story begins when he encounters Teresa Wagner, a transfer student from the fictional European country of Larsenburg, while photographing cherry blossoms. He helps her when she becomes lost, and she later transfers to his school and joins the photography club. Over the course of the series, Mitsuyoshi gradually develops deep romantic feelings for Teresa, though he struggles to acknowledge and express them. His journey involves learning to reconcile his past trauma, open up emotionally, and ultimately pursue what he truly wants.
Key relationships shape Mitsuyoshi's development. His childhood friend Kaoru Ijuin is a flamboyant and dramatic presence who often tries to provoke a reaction from Mitsuyoshi, and Kaoru’s perceptiveness makes him one of the first to notice Mitsuyoshi’s changing feelings. His younger sister Yui is observant, mature for her age, and provides steady encouragement, particularly when Mitsuyoshi hesitates to act on his emotions. The other members of the photography club, including senior Hajime Sugimoto, class representative Hinako Hasegawa, and underclassman Kentaro Yamashita, form a supportive circle that expands his world. His bond with Teresa is the emotional core of the series, and his interactions with her bodyguard Alexandra Magritte and Teresa’s fiancé Charles de Loire further challenge his sense of self.
Mitsuyoshi’s primary notable ability is his photography, which he uses not only as a skill but as a means of expressing emotion and connecting with others. His growth throughout the anime is marked by a shift from emotional suppression to vulnerability—culminating in his decision to travel to Larsenburg to confess his love to Teresa. This arc transforms him from a boy who claims he never falls in love into someone capable of acknowledging and chasing his own feelings.
