TV-Series
Description
Hajime Sugimoto is a third-year high school student and serves as the head of the photography club at Koinohoshi High School. He is often referred to by the nickname Senior Finn, which is derived from the reading of the kanji in his name. Physically, he is an adolescent male with black hair that reaches his ears and brown eyes, and he is typically seen wearing semi-rimless glasses.
In terms of personality, Hajime is a brilliant student who consistently achieves the highest scores on mock exams, yet his dedication to academics appears almost effortless, as he seems to study only roughly. His true nature is that of the series primary comedic and perverted character, a role he fills without hesitation. He frequently makes inappropriate suggestions, such as proposing nude photo shoots or commenting on the bodies of women, and he has expressed a desire to peek into the women's bathhouse. His eccentric behavior extends to his fashion sense, which is so hopeless that he has been mistaken for a beggar and taken away by the police.
Hajimes primary motivation and driving obsession is his fandom for a gravure idol named HINA. His devotion is so intense that he maintains a dedicated collection of her photos in a special corner of his room and uses any free time to express his passionate love for her. In a significant plot point, Hajime is completely unaware that the idol he worships, HINA, is actually his fellow photography club member and serious class representative, Hinako Hasegawa, who hides her looks behind her glasses and stern demeanor.
His role in the story is largely that of a comedic foil, providing humor through his perverted antics which are often stopped or punished by Hinako. However, he also shares a deep and meaningful history with her. Years prior to the events of the series, Hajime once stood up to a vicious dog to protect a frightened Hinako, an act of bravery that contrasts sharply with his usual comedic persona. This past event is a key foundation of their relationship, as Hinako wishes for him to like her for who she is, not for her secret identity as HINA.
Throughout the series, Hajimes academic goals undergo a notable development. Initially aiming to enter Kyoto University, his desire to continue spending time with his friends in college ultimately outweighs his original plan. He gives up on Kyoto University due to its distance and instead sets his sights on the more prestigious University of Tokyo, changing his choice with only three months left before the center exams. True to his established character as a genius, he passes and is accepted.
As a member of the photography club, Hajime possesses notable abilities with a camera. He uses a Canon EOS 80D, a high-quality model that he uses alongside the protagonist, marking him as one of the more technically equipped members of the club.
