Description
Hinako Hasegawa is a supporting character in the anime Tada Never Falls in Love, known for her dual existence as a studious high school girl and a popular gravure idol. She is a second-year student and a member of the photography club, having been recruited by her childhood friend, Hajime Sugimoto, who asked her to join in a bid to save the club from being disbanded due to a lack of members. Within the school environment, she holds the position of class president, which has earned her the nickname chairperson from her fellow club members.
In her daily life, Hinako presents herself as a modest and serious individual. She is described as a high-achieving student who handles her academic and student council responsibilities with ease and possesses a broad base of knowledge. Her appearance during school hours is deliberately understated; she wears her long brown hair in a braid and puts on a pair of semi-rimless glasses, which she uses to conceal her true looks. This reserved, straightforward demeanor is a key part of her character, as she is very earnest and wants to be appreciated for her genuine self rather than for a glamorous public image.
Unbeknownst to most of her peers, Hinako leads a secret life as HINA, a popular model for gravure magazines. She is the idol that her classmate, Kaoru Ijuin, is a passionate fan of. Her motivation for taking on this modeling work stems from a desire to change herself. Feeling that she is too serious and modest, she uses her persona as HINA as an opportunity to transform and express a different side of her personality. The central conflict of her personal story revolves around keeping these two identities separate, specifically hiding her modeling career from Hajime Sugimoto, whose admiration for the model HINA is a running theme. She wishes for Hajime to like her for who she is as Hinako, not because she is the idol he adores.
Her role in the overarching story is as a member of the main friend group, providing a grounded and sensible presence. Her key relationship is with Hajime Sugimoto, a friendship that dates back to kindergarten. The foundation of her romantic feelings for him is rooted in a childhood incident where a frightened young Hinako was crying after being confronted by a large dog, and Hajime stepped in to protect her. This event sparked her crush on him, and she addresses him casually as Hajime-chan. Among the main characters, only a select few, including the transfer students Teresa Wagner, Alexandra Magritte, and Charles de Loire, are aware of her secret identity as HINA. Throughout the series, Hinako does not undergo a dramatic personality shift, but her story consistently explores her effort to balance her public and private selves while navigating her unspoken feelings for Hajime.
Notably, Hinako is physically distinguished among the main female characters. She has blue eyes and stands 162 cm tall. As a member of the photography club, she uses a Canon PowerShot G9 X camera. Her birthday is November 9.
