Description
Lee Yut Lung is the youngest of the seven Lee brothers, born into the most powerful crime family in China. His mother was a concubine, and after she was raped and murdered by his older brothers, Yut Lung was raised in an environment of secrecy and abuse, including sexual abuse at the hands of his own siblings. To hide his existence, the family officially acknowledges only six sons, and Yut Lung operates under the alias Yau-Si. He initially presents himself as the brilliant adopted son of Alexis Dawson and later takes on the persona of a beautiful high-class escort for Dino Golzine.
Yut Lung is one of the main antagonists of the story. He is an extraordinarily intelligent and calculating individual who views emotions as weaknesses, dismissing sentimentality as worse than useless. His personality is cold, stoic, and deeply resentful. He presents himself as polite and harmless, but beneath that facade lies a ruthless and manipulative mind. He is a master of psychological manipulation, using his striking beauty, charm, and quick wit to lower the defenses of those around him, allowing him to achieve his goals without direct confrontation. He is also a skilled assassin who operates with precision in both shadow and daylight.
His primary motivation is revenge against his eldest brother, Daai Yan-Lee, whom he holds responsible for his mother's murder and for treating him as a mere object or a faithful dog rather than a human being. This deep-seated hatred fuels his every action. He secretly plans to destroy his brothers and avenge his mother, but he must maintain a submissive and obedient facade around them to survive. He also allies with Dino Golzine to analyze the chemical composition of the drug Banana Fish, a project that brings him into direct conflict with Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura. He is hostile toward Ash and makes multiple attempts to capture and kill Eiji, viewing them as obstacles to his plans.
In the story, Yut Lung serves as a foil to Ash Lynx, as both are young men shaped by profound trauma and abuse, but while Ash is driven by a capacity for love and connection, Yut Lung is consumed by hatred and a desire for vengeance. His role is that of a cunning and elusive antagonist who operates in the shadows, often manipulating events from behind the scenes.
Key relationships define his arc. The most significant is with his eldest brother Daai Yan-Lee, whom he loathes and intends to destroy. His interactions with Sin Su Rin gradually begin to crack his icy exterior, stirring a long-dormant sense of honor and forcing him to confront buried emotions. The other Lee brothers are objects of his resentment and targets of his eventual rebellion. His relationship with Ash and Eiji is purely adversarial, driven by his need to control the Banana Fish drug and eliminate anyone who threatens his plans.
Yut Lung undergoes notable development over the course of the series. His initial arc revolves around his undercover role and his manipulation of the criminal underworld. As the story progresses, moments of introspection emerge, particularly through his interactions with Sin Su Rin, which reveal a longing for familial connection and a weariness with being treated as a pawn. A turning point occurs when his plan for revenge against Daai Yan-Lee is jeopardized, forcing him into a series of confrontations that test his loyalties and his thirst for vengeance. His character evolves from a seemingly obedient and submissive brother into a figure on the verge of open rebellion against his family.
Among his notable abilities, Yut Lung possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and poisons, which he uses to lethal effect. His greatest asset is his intellect, allowing him to devise intricate schemes and predict the actions of others. His physical appearance and charisma serve as effective tools for seduction and deception, enabling him to move freely through high society and the underworld alike. Despite his cold exterior, he is a deeply wounded individual whose actions are rooted in a lifetime of trauma and a desperate quest for justice and recognition.
