Description
Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki is a token danshi who appears in Zoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru, the second season of the Hanamaru anime series. He is the manifestation of the actual uchigatana that was carried by the historical figure Sakamoto Ryoma. In the series, he is one of the early swords manifested in the citadel and takes part in both daily life and missions to protect history from the historical retrograde army.
His personality is marked by kindness and selflessness, often putting the needs of others before his own. He is highly emotional and tends to act on his feelings rather than careful deliberation, yet he maintains a cheerful demeanor and is almost always seen with a smile. He possesses a lively and upright nature, being honest about his ambitions and his loyalty to the saniwa, the master of the citadel. He has a somewhat rural background but is open to new ideas and values forward-thinking, even going so far as to consider swords outdated for the modern era. Reflecting this belief, he carries and uses a handgun in addition to his own blade, a trait that sets him apart from many other token danshi.
In terms of appearance, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki has medium-length, slightly messy black hair tied in a ponytail and brown eyes. He typically wears Japanese-style clothing with a sarashi, arm guards on his left arm, and sandals. In casual settings, he adds a bandana with a seigaiha pattern.
His role in the story centers on supporting his comrades during both combat and everyday activities at the citadel. He is often paired with other swords from the Bakumatsu period, such as Izuminokami Kanesada, and he shares a bond with those who understand the era he came from. Through his interactions with fellow token danshi, he develops a deeper sense of camaraderie and learns to balance his emotional nature with the responsibilities of his duty. While he is not the main focus of the plot, his presence contributes to the warm and cheerful atmosphere of the series, and his unique perspective as a sword from the end of the samurai age adds depth to the ensemble. His notable abilities include his proficiency with both sword and gun, as well as his relentless optimism, which helps lift the spirits of those around him.
