Description
Erika Burrows is the young chairman of the Burrows Foundation and the CEO of the media group Fabion MG. She is a figure who exists outside the typical flow of time, having been born in the year 2011 and placed into cryogenic sleep during the 20th century, only to be revived in the year 2104 after 77 years. Before her long sleep, her life was largely confined to a hospital due to a chronic illness, which denied her the chance to experience a normal childhood or education. She awoke to find herself as the sole surviving member of her family, inheriting a vast fortune and powerful corporate positions in a future world.
Describing her personality, Erika carries an air of detached observation, viewing the world with a sense of curiosity driven largely by boredom and a desire for entertainment. She is often seen as having an obsession with appearances, but this is presented as a deeply held philosophy rather than simple vanity. She believes that the value of an object, including a highly advanced hIE, is determined at least as much by its aesthetics and the power of its branding as by its functional purpose. She frames her own dramatic story not as a tragedy but as a fairy tale, likening herself to a Sleeping Beauty who has awoken in a new age. Physically, she stands out with tanned skin and silver hair, and she favors outfits that evoke the style of a Victorian doll, further emphasizing her unique and anachronistic sense of self.
Erika’s primary motivation is to witness and participate in the changes of the world she has re-entered. She has little interest in a quiet or conventional life, instead seeking to be at the center of the unfolding drama involving the Lacia-class hIEs. To this end, she forms a contract with the Lacia-type hIE known as Saturnus, whom she renames Marriage, and becomes a key player in the conflicts between these advanced androids. Her role in the story is that of a wildcard and a catalyst. She is the one who proposes to the other owners that their hIEs’ battles be made open and public, escalating the conflict from a hidden struggle to a spectacle. To further involve herself, she transfers into the high school class of the protagonist, Arato Endo, seeking to understand him and the situation from a more personal vantage point.
Her key relationships are defined by her position and curiosities. Her bond with her hIE, Marriage (Saturnus), is a reflection of her philosophy; she is less concerned with Marriage’s internal logic than with her external form, instructing her to adopt a cute and appealing appearance, such as that of a maid. Her interactions with Arato Endo are central, as she becomes his classmate and probes his relationship with the hIE Lacia. Early on, Arato perceives a strange hostility or antagonism from her, which stems not from malice but from her unique perspective and her own agenda as a rival owner. She also interacts with other owners like Ryo and the various hIEs, often using her authority as a corporate leader to convene them and drive the plot forward.
Erika undergoes a form of development that is less about a change in her core nature and more about the unfolding of her chosen role. Having been denied a normal life in the past, she deliberately inserts herself into a normal school setting to claim that experience, all while orchestrating a high-stakes power struggle. Her awakening from the past into the future is the central event of her character, and her journey involves learning to navigate this new world as a powerful, if emotionally detached, observer and instigator. As for notable abilities, Erika possesses no superhuman physical skills. Her power is entirely conventional yet immense, derived from her inherited position as the head of a major foundation and a media CEO, granting her vast financial resources and the ability to influence public opinion and the actions of the powerful Lacia-class hIEs. Her true talent lies in her strategic thinking and her willingness to turn the hidden conflict with the androids into a public game.
