Description
Jin Tadokoro is a former student of Sohoku High School and a key member of its bicycle racing club, known for his imposing physical presence and aggressive sprinting style. He has a tall, heavily built frame with straight, short black hair and sharp brown eyes. His most distinctive physical trait is his abnormally large lung capacity, which measures 8500 cubic centimeters, far exceeding the average person's. This physical advantage forms the foundation of his entire approach to cycling.

Tadokoro's journey as a cyclist was not one of immediate success. As a younger student, he struggled significantly, particularly with climbing. Despite cycling since middle school, he consistently performed poorly, coming in last at his First-Year Welcome Race and being forced to drop out of a training camp on its second day. In a misguided attempt to improve, he tried dieting to lose weight, only to find it deprived his large body of necessary energy. Convinced he could never win, he became heartbroken and attempted to submit his resignation from the bicycle club. However, the then-captain, Kanzaki Tooji, refused to accept his resignation. Instead, Kanzaki recognized that Tadokoro's powerful build was suited for sprinting rather than climbing. With the help of Coach Pierre, Kanzaki personally trained Tadokoro, focusing on his strengths as a sprinter and famously telling him that "a person decides their own limits." This mentorship was the turning point that transformed the uncertain, disheartened young cyclist into a confident and formidable competitor.

After finding his path to success, Tadokoro developed a personality as large as his stature. He is loud, boastful, and immensely proud of his abilities, particularly his speed. He has no hesitation in celebrating a victory and even views his own teammates as rivals in sprinting, engaging in constant arguments with the equally competitive first-year, Shoukichi Naruko, over who is the fastest. Despite this brash exterior, Tadokoro possesses a deeply caring and protective side. He is easily moved to tears, whether for defeated underclassmen he has trained or when a teammate is injured. He often acts as a caretaker for younger club members like Junta Teshima and Hajime Aoyagi, reminding them to eat properly and pushing them to improve. His kindness is also shown physically, as he is known for clapping teammates on the back or pulling them into embraces. This fierce protectiveness can lead to a long-standing temper, as seen when he punched Hakone Academy's Juichi Fukutomi after Fukutomi caused an accident that injured Sohoku's captain, Shingo Kinjou.

His role within the Sohoku team is that of a powerhouse sprinter and a pillar of support. On the road, he is the engine that can pull the entire team, using his large body to block the wind. Known by the nicknames the Human Bullet Train and the Rampaging Human Cannonball, his signature technique is the Mach Speed Oxygen Human Bullet. By taking deep, powerful breaths using his immense lung capacity, he floods his muscles with oxygen, which drastically reduces fatigue and allows for explosive acceleration. This technique makes him an invaluable asset on flat stages of competitions like the Inter High. His key relationships are central to the story. He shares a deep, unspoken bond with fellow third-years Kinjou and Yusuke Makishima, built over years of shared struggle. His dynamic with Naruko is a highlight, a mix of mentorship and sibling-like rivalry where Naruko constantly strives to surpass the older sprinter. Even with rivals, Tadokoro can show respect; after a fierce competition for a sprinter checkpoint, he and Hakone's Touichirou Izumida share a civil conversation, and he develops a casual friendship with the opposing team's sprinter, Hayato Shinkai.

Tadokoro's development is a core theme of his character. He transforms from a failure who wanted to quit to a confident ace who embraces his identity as a "filthy spear," constantly fighting and getting dirty for the sake of victory. His pride, however, can also be a source of weakness. On the second day of the Inter High, he falls ill but stubbornly refuses to show vulnerability, insisting he is merely giving his opponents a handicap and trying to hide his condition from others. When his strength fails him, he is forced to rely on his first-year teammate, Sakamichi Onoda, whose unorthodox methods of encouragement, including singing an anime theme song, help pull Tadokoro out of his despair and back into the race. This moment highlights his growth in learning to trust his teammates as much as his own power. Ultimately, Jin Tadokoro stands as a character defined by his immense physical gifts, his roaring confidence, and a profound, often understated loyalty to the team that gave him a second chance.
