Description
Jill Stora is a character from the anime ViVid Strike! who serves as a coach and trainer at Frontier Gym. She is the exclusive instructor of the young striker Rinne Berlinetta, responsible for honing her techniques and theoretical knowledge of combat. Jill is a former player herself, having had a career that brought her to the brink of a title match before suffering a severe injury during training that forced an early retirement. Her fighting style when active was that of a cross-range infighter, proficient in defensive techniques, hard punches, and high-speed throws, with many of her victories coming by knockout.

Jill holds a deep-seated belief that innate talent is the primary determinant of success in athletics. This philosophy puts her at odds with coaches who prioritize effort, most notably Nove Nakajima, with whom she has a public disagreement on a program called the Fighters Channel. Her conviction was forged by her own painful experiences as an athlete, where despite constantly refining her skills and studying training methods, she consistently fell short against naturally gifted opponents. The injury that ended her career occurred just before a championship bout, cementing her view that some dreams are unattainable and that hard work can be rendered meaningless in the face of overwhelming talent. She holds a particular resentment for coaches she considers anachronistic, who give players without talent false hope.

Despite this cynical viewpoint, Jill is presented as a caring and responsible person at her core. She first encountered Rinne when she rescued the girl from a group of kidnappers, chasing down their vehicle on foot and defeating the thugs to save a stranger. She also visits injured opponents in the hospital, acknowledging her responsibility for her own student's actions. Her primary motivation is the growth of her charge, but her flawed belief system leads her to neglect Rinne's emotional and psychological development, focusing almost exclusively on practice and competition. She is aware this is a problem but fears that if Rinne's worries and hesitations disappear, she might lose her passion for fighting.

Jill's role in the story is that of a mentor whose own unresolved trauma creates a barrier to Rinne's complete success. Her central relationship is with Rinne, but her interactions with Nove Nakajima are also crucial. While she initially dismisses Nove's effort-first philosophy, a phone conversation after Rinne's loss forces her to confront her own beliefs. Nove argues that results alone do not define a person's journey and that the time spent striving is never meaningless, a perspective Jill admits she would have valued from her own coach during her active career. This exchange leads Jill to set aside her pride, asking Nove to help train the fighter Fuka Reventon for an upcoming final match, which she and Rinne attend wearing the uniforms of Nove's Nakajima Gym. Through this, she begins to move past her rigid ideology.

Jill's development culminates in the realization that she was a failure as a coach for not addressing Rinne's internal struggles. When Rinne suffers an injury during a match, Jill tries to stop the fight, and later hearing Rinne express self-hatred makes her recognize her own faults. By the end of the story, her prized pupil Rinne captures the vacant U-15 champion title, fulfilling the dream that Jill herself was forced to abandon due to her past injury. Her abilities, aside from her formidable combat skills and vast knowledge of training regimes, include extraordinary physical stamina, demonstrated when she catches up to a moving vehicle on foot.
