Description
Gajō Akatsuki is the father of Kojou and Nagisa Akatsuki, as well as the ex-husband of Mimori Akatsuki. Following the Fairy's Coffin incident, Gajō entrusted the care of his children to Natsuki Minamiya while he embarked on a personal journey to find a "cure" for them. As an archaeologist specializing in mystical ruins and artifacts, he possesses extensive knowledge of magic and is well-versed in the operations of secret organizations that manage major magical phenomena, such as the Lion King Organization.

In terms of personality, Gajō is portrayed as a jolly and fun-loving middle-aged man who easily socializes with those around him, as demonstrated in his interactions with figures like Caluso and Liana Caruana. He has a deep appreciation for challenges and a tendency to engage in risky behavior, such as single-handedly fighting a magic-fueled giant golem with firearms or bringing his children along on dangerous expeditions, a habit that clearly displeases his ex-wife. Despite his cheerful demeanor, Gajō can be careless and abrasive, particularly with his son Kojou, whom he once jokingly but harshly teased about never being able to get a girlfriend.

Gajō is identified as a Returnee from the Netherworld, a condition resulting from the loss of half his body during the Fairy's Coffin incident. This state grants him several supernatural abilities, including the power to pass through solid objects like a ghost, the ability to sense magical energy from mystical objects or creatures, and the capacity to conjure various firearms with anti-magic properties from his coat. He is also an expert marksman who demonstrates great skill with all types of firearms.

Within the story, Gajō plays a significant role in events surrounding his family. He was part of a group targeted for capture at the Kamioda Temple, and he later finds himself imprisoned in a storehouse near the temple under surveillance. During an attack on the building by multiple demon beasts, he and his guard, Shio Hikawa, fight off the creatures and make their way to Kannawa Lake. While traversing the frozen lake, Gajō encounters his daughter Nagisa, who is possessed by Avrora, leading to a brief conversation before Nagisa collapses. Gajō's actions throughout these events are consistently driven by his deep connection to his children and his ongoing quest to protect them from the consequences of the Fairy's Coffin incident.
