Hinata Sakaguchi hails from Japan, enduring a childhood marred by domestic abuse from her gambling-addicted father. Driven to push him off a cliff for life insurance, this act triggered her mother's psychological breakdown. Hinata planned to kill her mother next but was transported to another world during her high school entrance ceremony at age 15.
Upon arrival, she was attacked by bandits. In the struggle, she awakened two Unique Skills and defeated them. Shizue Izawa discovered Hinata and took her in as a disciple, offering the only kindness Hinata experienced in her early years there. Hinata surpassed Shizue's combat prowess within a month by copying skills through her Unique Skill "Usurper," enabling her to steal or replicate opponents' abilities. Despite their bond, Hinata departed shortly after, wary of emotional attachment.
She joined the Holy Empire of Lubelius, rising to command its military forces as Chief of the Holy Knight Order and leader of the Ten Great Saints, achieving rank second only to the Holy Emperor. She reformed the Crusaders into an efficient force and founded the Ten Great Saints specifically to oppose the Ten Great Demon Lords. During her service, she uncovered a conspiracy where vampires manipulated the Western Holy Church. After defeating the vampires Roy and Louis, she confronted their master, Demon Lord Luminous Valentine. Luminous revived Hinata after inflicting fatal wounds. Unable to defeat Luminous and recognizing her governance benefited humanity, Hinata agreed to serve as her subordinate. She maintained her position as Head Knight of the Holy Emperor's Imperial Guard while secretly preparing for potential future conflicts with Luminous.
Hinata initially targeted Rimuru Tempest as an enemy, misled by false reports of his involvement in Shizue's death. She ambushed him using an anti-magic barrier and her spiritual-damage rapier, "Dead End Rainbow," capable of delivering a fatal seventh strike. Rimuru faked his death using a clone. Later, while traveling to Rimuru City, Hinata witnessed the Jura-Tempest Federation's peaceful coexistence with humans and realized her error. She apologized to Rimuru, resolving their conflict. She subsequently collaborated with him against mutual threats, including the Clerics of the Seven Luminaries. During a major conflict, Hinata sacrificed her soul to save Chloe Aubert, triggering a revelation about their shared time-loop reincarnations. Luminous restored her body, and Rimuru recovered her soul, leading to her revival and evolution into a true Hero.
Her abilities center on her Unique Skill "Usurper," which evolved into the Ultimate Skill "King of Fortune" (Fortuna). This skill grants enhanced perception, space-time manipulation, probability calculation, and disintegration magic. She wields the rapier "Moonlight," gifted by Luminous, and excels in spiritual attacks. Her "Mathematician" skill enables precise combat analysis and tactical predictions. She possesses complete magic resistance and naturally disassembles magicules, nullifying most non-holy magic.
Personality-wise, she projects a cold, pragmatic exterior but harbors compassion, especially toward children and subordinates. She cooperates with anyone, including former adversaries like Rimuru or Luminous, if it advances her goal of creating an egalitarian human society free from conflict. Her stubbornness often causes friction, though she admits fault when proven wrong. She enjoys Japanese cuisine like ramen but cannot tolerate spicy foods.
