Description
Lyudmila Arsenyevna Balakireva is a sixteen-year-old girl of Russian origin who appears as a supporting character in BBK/BRNK and its second season. She has long blonde hair styled with a headdress and red eyes, and she is the older twin sister of Diana Arsenyevna Balakireva and the younger sister of Maxim Arsenyevich Balakirev. Alongside her sister, Lyudmila belongs to a group of Bubuki-users representing the Russian Buranki known as Zanpaza, which was rendered inoperable after Migiwa Kazuki released an energy wave that deactivated all Buranki Hearts on Earth. Motivated by loyalty to her older brother Maxim, Lyudmila and her twin are sent to Japan by a mysterious benefactor to retrieve functioning Hearts from the teams aligned with Oubu and Entei, employing aggressive and violent methods to accomplish their goal. Lyudmila wields the scythe-shaped Bubuki named Schvedochka. She and Diana were both mentored by a figure named Akihito, which creates a particular point of contention with Shizuru Taneomi, who also trained under the same mentor and is frequently targeted by the twins as a result. Lyudmila is generally calm and composed on the surface, but she operates with a strong sense of duty and perfectionism, holding herself and others to high standards. Her devotion to her brother is a driving force in her actions. Over the course of the story, Lyudmila undergoes a tragic turning point: she is brainwashed by a character named Guy Valery Abeille, and while under his control, she kills all of her own team members before taking her own life. This event marks the end of her character arc and underscores the cruel manipulation used by Guy to further his own plans. Lyudmila's abilities center on her combat proficiency with the scythe Bubuki, which she uses with skill and precision. Her relationship with Diana is the closest and most defining bond of her life; the twins work as a pair and share a deep commitment to their brother Maxim. Her antagonism toward Shizuru reflects a personal grudge rooted in their shared history under Akihito. Lyudmila does not experience a redemption arc, as her brainwashing leads directly to her death, but her role highlights the dangerous costs of the conflict and the vulnerability of even the most disciplined fighters to external manipulation.
