Description
Anson Sioux is a significant antagonist in the story, serving as a colonel in the Legadonia Federation's military and the commander of its 5th Aerial Mage Wing. A loyal and devout soldier, he is deeply devoted to his country, his comrades, and his family, which consists of his wife and his young daughter, Mary Sioux. This sense of duty and love for his homeland defines his initial character, presenting him as an honorable man fighting for what he believes is a just cause.

His path becomes inextricably linked with that of Tanya Degurechaff during the Empire's opening engagements of the war in the Norden region. In their first encounter, his mage wing suffers devastating losses at her hands. The second clash at the Battle of Orse Fjord proves even more catastrophic, as Tanya's battalion not only annihilates the majority of his forces but also delivers a critical blow that leads to his country's downfall. During this battle, he challenges Tanya directly and is stabbed through the heart, only to miraculously survive and fall into a coma. This near-death experience and the ruin of his nation transform him fundamentally. His patriotic duty curdles into a burning obsession for revenge against Tanya and the destruction of the Empire.

Upon recovering, Anson returns as a changed man, driven by a zealous and unwavering desire for vengeance. His already strong religious faith becomes amplified to a fanatical degree; he prays fervently to what he believes is God to grant him the power to kill Tanya. In a narrative irony, his sincere prayers are answered by the entity known as Being X, which empowers him with divine magic. This power manifests distinctly; he can store enchanted energy directly into individual bullets, causing them to explode on impact, and his eyes glow with an otherworldly golden light when he channels this ability. Unlike Tanya, he does not require an operation orb to channel this power, making him a uniquely formidable and dangerous foe.

His role in the story is that of a primary antagonist and a tragic foil to Tanya. He highlights the human cost of the Empire's aggressive expansion and serves as a direct instrument of Being X, intended to punish Tanya for her defiance. Key relationships drive his actions, particularly the bond with his daughter. The gift he receives from Mary, a submachine gun with his initials engraved on it, becomes a poignant symbol of what he is fighting for and, ultimately, a trophy claimed by his killer. The relationship between Tanya and Anson is a direct and personal rivalry, one based on her ruthless efficiency and his escalating quest for payback.

Anson's character development is a tragic arc from a noble, loving family man and a competent, respected officer into a vengeful fanatic. In his final battle, he leads his unit against Tanya's battalion, taking down many of her soldiers before confronting her directly. Despite being evenly matched in power, he is ultimately shot and killed by Tanya. Even in death, Being X possesses his corpse in a final attempt to take Tanya with him in a suicide explosion, an act that fails but underscores how completely his faith and body were consumed as a tool against her. Regarding notable abilities, beyond his standard aerial mage skills of flight, marksmanship, and barrier use, his most distinctive power is the divine enchantment of his bullets, which makes his attacks exceptionally destructive. His tactical acumen as a commanding officer also makes him a dangerous strategist.
