Description
Dao is a minor antagonist who appears in the fifth episode of Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory, titled Welcome to the Jungle. He is the leader of a group of bandits operating in the small, lawless country of Namsac, which is situated in Southeast Asia. In this region, combatants fight in an arena using outdated Arm Slave units, and Dao is a participant in these matches, piloting an M6 Arm Slave for a team called Ogre. He is a man of average adult age with black eyes and short black hair that reaches his ears.

Dao’s personality is defined by his ruthless, underhanded, and violent nature. He is a bully who has no qualms about using extreme methods to achieve his goals and is characterized as a villain who will do anything to win. His behavior is consistently aggressive and vindictive, and he shows little regard for the lives of others. Dao is not a man of honor; he is driven by anger, revenge, and a desire to dominate those who oppose him. Despite his thuggish character, he possesses considerable skill as an Arm Slave pilot, which makes him a genuine threat within the arena of Namsac.

Dao's primary motivation is to assert his power and eliminate anyone who interferes with his business or humiliates him. He first appears attempting to mug a foreign photographer named Lemon, an act that is thwarted by a local teenage girl named Nami, who runs her own Arm Slave team. Dao seeks immediate revenge for this interference by murdering Rick, the pilot of Nami's team. His goals then expand to defeating Nami's team in the arena to further crush her, and subsequently, hunting down Nami and her new pilot for personal vengeance after he is publicly defeated.

In the story of Invisible Victory, Dao serves as an initial and local threat for the protagonist, Sousuke Sagara, who is separated from his mercenary organization and searching for an old comrade. When Sousuke arrives in Namsac looking for Rick, he discovers that Dao has killed him. To help Nami, Sousuke takes up the position of her Arm Slave pilot. In their first match against Dao, Sousuke easily defeats the bandit leader despite piloting an inferior Savage unit. This public loss does not deter Dao. Later that night, true to his vindictive nature, he and his thugs ambush Nami. Although Dao believes he has incapacitated Sousuke, the former mercenary quickly turns the tables, stabbing Dao in the throat and delivering a non-fatal but decisive wound that forces Dao and his men to flee.

Dao's key relationship is with his rival, Nami, whose interference in his criminal activity sparks the entire conflict. He sees her as a nuisance to be crushed and takes pleasure in sabotaging her team. His most significant interaction, however, is with Sousuke Sagara. Dao initially underestimates Sousuke, believing him to be just another arena fighter, only to be utterly outclassed in combat both inside and outside of his Arm Slave. This encounter reveals the vast gap between a local thug and a seasoned special forces soldier. Dao has no meaningful allies, only thugs who follow his orders, and his development is static; he does not change or grow as a person but rather serves as an obstacle to be overcome, showcasing Sousuke's superior abilities in this new environment. His notable abilities include his piloting skills with the M6 Arm Slave, which are implied to be quite adept by arena standards, and his willingness to use lethal and dishonorable tactics without hesitation.
