Tōru Sakurai
Description
Tōru Sakurai is a Japanese voice actor born on November 10, 1987, in Hyōgo Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent agency Ken Production. His interest in voice acting began during middle school, inspired by the video games he played, which led him to pursue a career in the field. He is a graduate of the Osaka Visual Arts academy's voice actor department, completing the program as part of its sixth intake in 2005 before joining his current agency.
Sakurai's early career consisted of numerous minor and background roles in various anime television series during the late 2000s and early 2010s. He gained his first major recurring role and significant industry attention in 2013 as Ichirō Komaba in the farming-themed anime Silver Spoon. This was followed by another prominent supporting role in the long-running sports anime Haikyu!!, where he voices Takahiro Hanamaki, a player for the Aoba Johsai High team, a part he has played since 2014.
Sakurai has been notably active in the Touken Ranbu multimedia franchise, which began as a game in 2015. He voices several swords in the franchise, including the characters Yamabushi Kunihiro, Dōdanuki Masakuni, and Tonbokiri. Tonbokiri appears in the 2017 anime adaptation Katsugeki: Touken Ranbu. His film work includes roles in major theatrical releases. He voiced the character Allen in the 2017 film Kuroko's Basketball The Movie: LAST GAME. More recently, he voiced the character Makoukan in the 2021 animated film The Deer King and Lee Pai-Long in the 2021 version of Shaman King.
In 2018, Sakurai voiced the character Moore in the anime The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These. He has also provided voices for antagonists in other series, such as Wadatsumi in Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z. Other recurring roles include Yūdai Sakamoto in the racing anime MF Ghost and its second season, Araki in Ajin, Breakin in Brave Beats, and Imusa in Kuromukuro. He voiced Dao in Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory and Gordon in Farming Life in Another World.
Sakurai's skill set includes proficiency in the Kansai dialect, which is his native dialect, as well as judo, cooking, and singing.
