Description
Breakin is a small, robot-like being known as a Dancerian, originating from an alternate dimension called the Dance World. His appearance is compact and mechanical, reflecting his nature as a partner character, though his exact original form before losing his powers remains somewhat ambiguous. As his name suggests, he is a specialist in breakdancing, a style he has dedicated himself to mastering.
In terms of personality, Breakin is defined by a strong sense of pride and a stubborn disposition. He possesses absolute confidence in his dancing abilities and can become easily irritated when not taken seriously, with a notable dislike for being called a toy. His unique aesthetic sensibility leads him to find great beauty in anything that spins or rolls, such as the wheels of a car, a discus, a robotic vacuum cleaner, or round foods like donuts. Encountering such objects often elicits a dramatic, awe-struck reaction from him.
Breakin’s primary motivation stems from a failed challenge for the throne of the Dance King. After being defeated, his power was stripped away, taking the form of scattered Dance Stones that fell to Earth. His main goal is to recover all these stones in order to regain his original power and return to his home world. However, he is unable to collect these stones on his own in his weakened state, forcing him to rely on a human partner.
In the story, Breakin serves as the catalyst for the events on Earth. After crash-landing in the human world, he meets Hibiki Kazaguruma, a sixth-grade boy who is initially embarrassed by dancing. To overcome his limitations, Breakin forms a partnership with Hibiki, enabling them to fuse together and transform into a dancing superhero named Flash Beat. This fusion is the primary method used to collect the Dance Stones and battle other rivals seeking the same power. Breakin ends up living at Hibiki’s house, integrating into his daily life while constantly pushing him to dance.
Breakin’s most significant relationship is with his human partner, Hibiki. While the two often clash due to Breakin’s bossy attitude and Hibiki’s reluctance, they develop a strong bond of trust necessary to achieve their goal. He also interacts with other Dancerians and rivals within the series, such as the villainous Choreo and the thief duo Mink and Tank, who frequently attempt to steal the Dance Stones for their own purposes. His relationship with another Dancerian named Adeline includes moments of cooperation, such as performing combination attacks.
Over the course of the series, Breakin experiences notable development. Initially fixated solely on reclaiming his power and status, his journey on Earth alongside Hibiki leads him to a different understanding of what it means to be a true dancer. By the final episode, he is offered the title of Dance King but ultimately refuses it. He concludes that his aim was to reach the top of manhood and skill, not to attain a royal status, showing significant personal growth from the boastful rival he was at the beginning.
As a dancer, Breakin’s notable abilities center on his expertise in breakdancing, which forms the foundation of Flash Beat’s fighting style. Even in his small robotic form, he can perform impressive moves. Perhaps his most unusual ability is an involuntary one; when his neck was bent at a strange angle due to an accident with a bag, an attempt to fix it resulted in him and his friends traveling back in time. He can also combine his efforts with other Dancerians, such as using Adeline as a projectile in a rapid attack.
