Description
Jet Link, designated Cyborg 002, is one of the nine cyborg protagonists of the 2016 CGI film series Cyborg 009: Call of Justice. His background begins in the United States, where he was a teenager living on the streets before being forcibly taken by the Black Ghost organization. Like his fellow cyborgs, he was abducted and unwillingly transformed into a living weapon as part of Black Ghost's 00 Cyborg program. After rebelling against his creators and escaping captivity alongside the other cyborgs, he became a dedicated protector of humanity, fighting against Black Ghost and other threats. In the time leading up to the events of Call of Justice, he was freed from his duties following the establishment of the United Nations Guardian troops, allowing him to finally live a quiet and peaceful life.
In terms of personality, Jet Link is known for being quick-tempered, brash, and stubborn, with a sarcastic and cynical edge. He is not afraid to openly state his opinions, even when they clash with those of his teammates. Despite this rebellious and sometimes abrasive exterior, he is fundamentally friendly, laid-back, and deeply loyal to his team, often acting as an older brother figure to the other cyborgs. His motivations are rooted in a profound hatred for the Black Ghost organization that abducted and transformed him, and he is determined to fight against injustice and protect humanity from similar threats.
In Call of Justice, his story role is reactivated when he is contacted by Lucy Davenport, a journalist seeking to expose a mysterious and evil group of intelligent superhumans known as the Blessed. This draws him and the other 00 Cyborgs out of retirement to oppose this new enemy. Throughout the story, he participates in key confrontations, including being released by a character named Igarashi to attempt a rescue and later facing one of the Blessed outside a space station. His key relationships include his dynamic with his fellow cyborgs, especially with Cyborg 009, Joe Shimamura, with whom he sometimes butts heads over leadership decisions but ultimately follows and respects. He also has a long-standing connection to Dr. Gilmore, the scientist who helps the cyborgs.
Regarding development, Jet Link was one of the first-generation cyborgs created by Black Ghost. Along with Cyborgs 001, 003, and 004, he was placed into cryogenic stasis for approximately forty years due to critical technical flaws and instability in his cybernetic systems. It was only after technological advancements were made that he and the others were reactivated. A unique element of his personal history in some continuities is that he was originally designated as Cyborg 001, but was reassigned to 002 when Ivan Whisky, the infant with immense psychic powers, was created and superseded his position in the prototype line.
Jet Link's notable abilities center on high-speed aerial combat. He has rocket boosters built into his legs and feet that allow him to fly at speeds of up to Mach 5, and he is also equipped with a prototype Acceleration Module. This device grants him a temporary burst of super speed, although it is an earlier, less refined version of the accelerator later given to Cyborg 009, making it less powerful and durable. His body was specifically designed to be lightweight to enable flight, which means he lacks the immense physical strength of some of the other cyborgs like Cyborg 005. Prior to his cybernetic conversion, he was a skilled street fighter and gang member, which contributes to his proficiency in combat and his preference for using guns, often wielding two at once. Physically, he is recognized by his swept-back hair, athletic build, and particularly his large, prominent nose, which has become an iconic trait of the character.
