Description
Altria Pendragon (Alter) represents the corrupted manifestation of the legendary King Arthur, a version of the Knight King known as Saber Alter within the narrative of Fate/Grand Order: First Order. Her existence is the result of being tainted by the curse of the Holy Grail, which has eroded her ideals and given form to a cold, ruthless aspect of her personality. While the standard Altria Pendragon constantly restrains her immense power, this altered version unleashes it without hesitation, believing that to be the true nature of an ideal king. Her physical appearance mirrors this change, as her iconic blue dress and silver armor are replaced by a dark, somber palette of blacks and deep purples, and her holy sword Excalibur is similarly corrupted, now glowing with a malevolent black light.

Personality-wise, Altria Alter is the antithesis of the original's chivalrous demeanor. She is described as a冷酷无情的暴君, or a cruel and unfeeling tyrant. Her speech is devoid of unnecessary words, and her actions are governed by a chilling efficiency. This stark change makes her seem like a different person entirely, yet a careful observer might notice that her fundamental core remains intact. Her motivations and ultimate goal have not changed from the original Altria's; she still seeks the prosperity and salvation of her kingdom. However, her methods are reversed. Where the original king would pursue this ideal through justice and integrity, Altria Alter believes that achieving the same goal justifies the use of tyrannical force and oppressive governance. She is not inherently evil but rather a dark heroine whose moral compass has been inverted by the Grail's corruption.

In Fate/Grand Order: First Order, which adapts the prologue of the game, Altria Alter serves as the primary antagonist. She appears in the corrupted city of Fuyuki, acting as the final guardian of the Holy Grail at the heart of the singularity. Her role is to defend the source of the temporal anomaly against the protagonist, Ritsuka Fujimaru, and his Shielder servant, Mash Kyrielight. She single-handedly defeats the other Servants summoned in that distorted Holy Grail War, turning them into her subordinates, and awaits the protagonists in the depths of the city. Her key relationship in this story is as an adversary; she directly challenges the group, testing Mash’s newfound defensive Noble Phantasm with her own overwhelming offensive power. There is no significant development for her character within the First Order narrative itself, as she appears as a fully-formed obstacle. However, her defeat and subsequent potential summoning by the protagonist in the larger Fate/Grand Order story open the door for future interactions, where her loyalty as a Servant can be earned.

Altria Alter is defined by her remarkable abilities, which prioritize raw, destructive power over finesse. Her parameters reflect this, with an A rank in both Strength and Mana, but a lower D rank in Agility due to the increased weight of her darkened armor. Her signature ability is her Noble Phantasm, Excalibur Morgan. This is the corrupted form of the original Excalibur, an A++ ranked Anti-Fortress weapon. Instead of releasing a beam of light, it unleashes a torrent of black energy that consumes all light around it. This dark radiance is said to resemble the breath of the great dragon Vortigern, an enemy of her kingdom. Another core ability is Mana Burst at rank A, which allows her to instantly release magical energy to enhance her attacks and defenses. This is made possible by her dragon core, a magical reactor that generates an immense amount of magical energy, explaining why she has such a voracious appetite, especially for simple, high-calorie foods. Furthermore, her corruption by the Holy Grail lowered her normally high Magic Resistance from rank A to rank B. Despite her formidable power, her straightforward combat style can be seen as a disadvantage, as it lacks the tactical surprises that other Servants might employ.
