Description
Hijiri Kasuga is a central character in the Trinity Seven series, serving as the catalyst for the entire story. She is the cousin and childhood friend of the protagonist, Arata Kasuga, with whom she lived following the apparent death of her parents. However, this shared history is built on a foundation of carefully constructed deception. In truth, it was Arata's parents who died, and Hijiri, born to his uncle and an agent of the Royal Liber Academy, was sent to live with him under a magical suggestion that altered both their memories. Her true mission, assigned by Master Liber, the head of the academy, was to monitor Arata, a candidate for becoming a Demon Lord, and to eliminate him if he showed signs of awakening prematurely.
At first glance, Hijiri appears as a caring, diligent, and slightly bossy young woman who manages the household and looks after Arata's daily needs. Her classmates even referred to her as Arata's wife due to her constant presence and devotion. Yet beneath this gentle facade lies a complex and ruthless individual. She can be cold, forceful, and intimidating, displaying a calm and calculative attitude in battle. This duality defines her, as her most extreme actions are driven not by malice, but by a profound and desperate love for Arata. Deep down, she harbors a simple wish to be his bride, a dream that stands in stark contrast to the tragic destiny she is forced to confront.
Her motivations become clear following the Breakdown Phenomenon caused by the Black Sun. As she was consumed by this dimensional collapse and transported to the Void World, she gave Arata her legendary grimoire, the Astil Manuscript, to protect him. In the space between worlds, Hijiri witnessed an endless, tragic cycle: Arata, upon meeting the Trinity Seven, would awaken as a Demon Lord and destroy the world, only for a new world to be born and repeat the same fate. Determined to free Arata from this inescapable loop, she made a fateful decision. She became a powerful Demon Lord Candidate herself, allied with the organization Iscariot, and resolved to destroy the present world to create a new one where Arata could live happily, even if it meant becoming his enemy.
Within the story, Hijiri serves as both a primary antagonist and a tragic figure. After her return, she directly confronts Arata and the Trinity Seven, demonstrating power that allows her to fight against multiple members simultaneously. Her key relationships are central to the plot. Her bond with Arata is the story's emotional core, and her actions are all for his sake. She also shares a profound, unique connection with Arin Kannazuki, a member of the Trinity Seven who bears a striking resemblance to her. It is eventually revealed that both Hijiri and Arin are reincarnations of the World Tree Priestess, Celestia, a former companion of a Demon King. Their souls were split in two to ensure that no matter what, one of them would always be by Arata's side. This revelation positions Hijiri as not just a viable candidate for the Trinity Seven, but also as the Final Activation Key, a being of immense importance to the world's very structure.
As a magus, Hijiri is exceptionally gifted, having awakened her powers from a young age. She specializes in a sacred magic system called Chaotic Rune, which is based on Norse runes. Her Archive, which defines the nature of her magic, is Wrath. She has reached the Trinity level of mastery over her three Themes: Collapse, Creation, and Analysis. This allows her to dismantle matter, generate powerful magical blasts, and manipulate the structure of the world itself. Her signature defensive and offensive spell, Vegtamskvida, is nearly unbreakable, countered only by specific weapons like Arin's Gae Bolg. By utilizing her Demon Lord Factor, Hijiri can manifest Satan, the physical form of the Wrath Archive, which grants her immense power in the form of a magical battle suit called Seiten. Over the course of her development, she proves she is capable of causing her own Breakdown Phenomenon, showcasing her power to rival Arata's own. After being defeated in a one-on-one battle with Arata, she ultimately sacrificed her physical form to become the silent, living embodiment of a new world of black flames, returning to his side in a different state of existence to continue watching over him.
