Description
Mamoru Bandai is a supporting character in the 2017 anime series The Laughing Salesman NEW. He is a middle-aged man living with his wife and young daughter, working a regular job that leaves him financially strained and feeling undervalued. He has a personal hobby of admiring the painted murals found in traditional Japanese bathhouses, a pastime that reflects a nostalgic and artistic sensibility. His dissatisfaction with his modest life leads him to encounter the enigmatic salesman Moguro Fukuzou, who offers to grant his wish for greater wealth and success. Bandai accepts this deal, but soon learns that Moguro’s assistance comes with strict conditions and severe consequences if those conditions are broken. As the story unfolds, Bandai’s desire for material gain clashes with the simple joys he once valued, and his failure to adhere to the agreement results in a harsh turn of events. Through this experience, Bandai serves as a cautionary figure whose narrative illustrates the dangers of unchecked greed and the importance of appreciating one’s existing blessings. He does not possess any supernatural abilities; his significance lies in the moral lesson his story conveys and his role as one of many clients who fall victim to Moguro’s deceptive philanthropy. His key relationship is with Moguro, who acts as both a catalyst for his temporary fulfillment and the agent of his eventual downfall. No significant development beyond his single episode is shown, as the series follows an anthology structure where clients appear only once.
