Description
Momoshiki Ootsutsuki is a member of the Ootsutsuki clan’s main family who descends upon Earth after investigating the disappearance of Kaguya and her God Tree. His primary goal is to plant a new Divine Tree by harvesting the immense chakra of the Nine-Tails sealed inside Naruto Uzumaki, in order to produce a chakra fruit that would grant him eternal life and immense power. Momoshiki possesses a pale, androgynous appearance and carries himself with an air of superiority, viewing humans as inferior creatures to be exploited. Despite a generally lazy and indolent demeanor, he is a cunning strategist who adapts quickly to changing situations, and he displays an arrogant confidence that shifts to frustration when his plans are thwarted. His motivations are purely self-serving: he seeks to consume chakra fruits to attain godhood and extend his existence, showing no empathy or moral restraint.

In the story, Momoshiki first appears as the main antagonist of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations movie and the early anime arcs. He attacks Konohagakure during the Chûnin Exams alongside his subordinate Kinshiki, captures Naruto, and engages in a fierce battle with Naruto, Sasuke Uchiha, and Boruto. When overpowered, Momoshiki transforms Kinshiki into a chakra pill and consumes it, gaining a more powerful form with an additional Rinnegan on his forehead. He is ultimately defeated by a combined Rasengan from Naruto and Boruto, but before his death, he places a Karma seal on Boruto’s palm, allowing his consciousness to survive and gradually take over Boruto’s body. This marks a shift from a physical villain to a persistent internal threat that periodically manifests during critical moments, such as in battles against Kara members like Boro and later against Code. Momoshiki’s relationship with Kinshiki is transactional and domineering; he treats Kinshiki as a disposable tool and does not hesitate to sacrifice him for power. His connection to Boruto becomes the central antagonistic dynamic in the later narrative, as Momoshiki constantly seeks to overwrite Boruto’s will and fully resurrect himself.

Momoshiki is notably skilled in taijutsu but relies heavily on his unique abilities. He wields a pair of Byakugan in his eye sockets and a Rinnegan in each palm, which he uses to absorb any ninjutsu directed at him and then release it with amplified force. He can also manipulate space-time to travel between dimensions, create shadow paralysis techniques, and generate massive elemental golems. After fusing with Kinshiki, his strength and speed increase dramatically, and he gains the ability to form chakra constructs such as a giant Rasengan. Through the Karma seal, he can take control of Boruto’s body, access his memories and techniques, and even absorb chakra from others to sustain himself. However, his reliance on chakra absorption is a notable weakness; when opponents refrain from using jutsu, his physical combat prowess proves less formidable. Throughout his development, Momoshiki evolves from a straightforward alien invader into a lingering, parasitic presence that forces Boruto to struggle with the risk of losing his identity. His influence drives key character decisions, including Boruto’s willingness to sacrifice himself to prevent Momoshiki’s resurrection, and creates lasting tension within the Uzumaki family and the Hidden Leaf Village.
