Description
Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki is a member of the Ōtsutsuki clan, the main family that oversees the cultivation of chakra fruits across different worlds. He was sent to investigate the disappearance of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki and her God Tree on Earth, with the intention of harvesting a new chakra fruit for himself. Momoshiki first appears when he and his partner Kinshiki detect signs of Kaguya's failure to report an abnormal space-time curvature. Intrigued by the possibility that inferior life forms may have defeated her, Momoshiki decides to personally assess the planet's chakra abundance.

In terms of personality, Momoshiki is defined by an immense superiority complex. He views humans as lesser beings and speaks of their world as if it exists solely to serve his purposes. He is condescending, calm, and often amused by the efforts of his opponents until he is cornered, at which point he becomes more aggressive and desperate. His primary motivation is to consume all available chakra, particularly that of the tailed beasts, to create chakra pills that grant him eternal youth and godlike power. He is entirely self-serving and willing to sacrifice even his own partner to survive.

His role in the story begins as the primary antagonist of the Chunin Exams invasion. Alongside Kinshiki, he attacks Konohagakure to capture Naruto Uzumaki and extract the Nine Tails' chakra. He is ultimately defeated by a combined attack from Naruto and his son Boruto. However, in his final moments, Momoshiki uses his remaining power to place a Karma seal on Boruto, effectively overwriting his own data into the boy's body. This act elevates his presence from a defeated villain to an ongoing internal threat. He reappears later in the series by taking control of Boruto's body in moments of extreme stress or chakra depletion, including during battles against the Kara organization member Boro and against Isshiki Ōtsutsuki. After Isshiki's defeat, Momoshiki briefly resurrects through Boruto and stabs out Sasuke Uchiha's Rinnegan, further altering the course of the narrative.

Key relationships shape much of his arc. His bond with Kinshiki is one of master and servant. Kinshiki serves as his guardian and enforcer, but when the situation becomes dire, Momoshiki does not hesitate to consume Kinshiki by transforming him into a chakra pill and absorbing his power. This act causes a drastic physical transformation, granting him increased strength and a third Rinnegan on his forehead. With Boruto, Momoshiki has a parasitic relationship. He views Boruto as a vessel and repeatedly attempts to take control of his body. Over time, he develops a peculiar interest in Boruto's potential, cryptically warning him that his blue eyes will one day take everything from him. This connection ties Momoshiki directly to the protagonist's internal struggle.

His character develops significantly after death. While initially portrayed as a straightforward world-threatening villain, his presence shifts into that of a lingering curse. He becomes a source of power that Boruto must learn to control, and his influence creates a constant tension between Boruto's identity and the Otsutsuki legacy. His ability to manifest within Boruto also forces other characters, such as Sasuke, to consider extreme measures to stop him.

Momoshiki possesses several notable abilities. As an Otsutsuki, he can fly and survive in space, and his chakra reserves are immense. He wields the Byakugan in both eyes, granting nearly 360-degree vision, x-ray sight, and the ability to see chakra pathways. His most distinctive dojutsu is the Rinnegan, which appears on the palms of both hands. With his right palm, he can absorb any ninjutsu and chakra. With his left palm, he amplifies the absorbed technique and releases it with much greater force. This ability makes him extremely dangerous against conventional shinobi. After eating Kinshiki, he gains additional power, including Wood Release, and can create massive elemental constructs such as a golem made of lava and rock, as well as serpentine and avian creatures formed from earth and fire chakra. He can also manifest a giant Rasengan. Through the Karma seal placed on Boruto, Momoshiki can temporarily resurrect, accessing his full abilities and even using Boruto's own techniques. The seal evolves over time and threatens to permanently overwrite Boruto's consciousness.
