Description
Alice Nakiri is a prominent character and a highly skilled chef attending the Tōtsuki Culinary Academy, where she is known as a member of the prestigious Nakiri family. She is the paternal cousin of Erina Nakiri, the granddaughter of the academy's director, Senzaemon Nakiri, and the daughter of Sōe Nakiri, who heads the Tōtsuki International Group's European branch, and his Danish wife, Leonora. Alice spent her early childhood living with Erina at the Nakiri family mansion. This period was marked by a difficult dynamic, as Erina often bullied her younger cousin, with incidents including rejecting Alice’s fourth birthday cake and taking her doll when Alice was three years old. Tired of living in Erina’s shadow and spurred on by constant comparisons, Alice decided to forge her own path. At the age of five, she moved to Denmark with her father to pursue her interest in molecular gastronomy, a field she would come to dominate. By the age of nine, she had gained renown as a top expert, earning the title of the "Heaven Sent Child of Molecular Gastronomy".

Physically, Alice has fair skin, pronounced crimson red eyes, and short silver hair with a longer left bang that initially reaches her chin and later grows to her collar. She stands 165 cm tall and is often seen wearing a distinctive cream-colored uniform vest instead of the standard Tōtsuki jacket, along with a short-sleeved chef's uniform featuring red or blackish-gray accents.

Alice’s personality is a blend of confidence, cheerfulness, and cunning. She holds her Nakiri heritage in high regard and enjoys highlighting the differences in skill between herself and her rivals, though she is generally less conceited than her cousin Erina. Unlike the more rigid and traditional Erina, Alice is sociable, playful, and talkative, often engaging with rivals casually just to poke fun at them, a trait she inherited from her mother. She is a modern girl who enjoys gossip and romance, even trying to discuss these topics with the socially dense Erina. Alice is also very cunning and manipulative, once using reverse psychology to keep Erina at a public pool. Despite her jovial nature, she is bossy, particularly towards her aide Ryō Kurokiba, and has a tendency to throw temporary tantrums or pout dramatically when she does not get her way or is displeased.

Her primary motivation is to surpass her cousin, Erina Nakiri. This deep-seated rivalry stems from their childhood, but it is underlaid with genuine care and respect. While they openly compete and bicker, Alice is one of the few people whose skill Erina acknowledges, and Alice secretly admires her cousin. This bond is further complicated by her hatred for her uncle, Azami Nakiri, who abused Erina and tore up all the letters Alice sent to her cousin from Denmark, effectively cutting off their communication for years. Alice’s drive to prove herself extends beyond her family; she also develops a rivalry with the protagonist, Sōma Yukihira, after his defiant speech at the 92nd Generation Orientation Ceremony and his unconventional cooking philosophy.

Within the story of Tōtsuki Academy, Alice plays a significant role as a top-tier rival and an innovator. She entered Tōtsuki’s middle school and quickly became a dominant figure. In her second year, she single-handedly defeated the Cutting-Edge Cooking RS society in a Shokugeki to claim their clubroom, later becoming its chief and rising to the sixth seat of the prestigious Elite Ten Council. During the Friendship and Rapport Training Camp, she impressed everyone by serving 380 portions of her artistic breakfast dish, the Three Forms of Egg Dishes, which drew large crowds. She participated in the 43rd Autumn Election, where she faced Sōma in the quarterfinals with a visually stunning Temari Bento, a dish consisting of twelve colorful sushi varieties, but ultimately lost, a defeat that affected her deeply.

Alice’s key relationships define much of her character. Her relationship with Erina is central, evolving from a childhood of bullying to a strong rivalry that hides deep familial care. She proved this when she risked her uncle's wrath to smuggle Erina out of the Nakiri mansion. Her dynamic with Ryō Kurokiba is equally important. Alice discovered Ryō working at a pub in Denmark and, after winning their initial cooking duel, proposed he become her aide, phrasing it as "adopting a stray dog". For two years, Ryō challenged her repeatedly until he finally achieved his first victory, after which he began respectfully calling her "milady" and accompanied her to Tōtsuki. Despite her bossy demeanor, she relies on him heavily, and he remains fiercely loyal to her. Her relationship with Sōma is one of mutual curiosity and friendly rivalry, as she views his "old-fashioned" cooking style as a direct challenge to her modern, scientific philosophy.

Alice’s development throughout the series shows her growth from a chef solely focused on proving her superiority to one who learns the value of "heart and soul" in cooking, a lesson she learned from her loss to Sōma. She remains a fiercely competitive and innovative chef, but her experiences deepen her respect for other culinary approaches and solidify her role as a supportive, if still teasing, cousin to Erina.

Her notable abilities lie entirely in the field of molecular gastronomy. She investigates the physical and chemical transformations of ingredients during cooking, using advanced equipment and techniques like spherification and liquid nitrogen to create innovative dishes. She prioritizes the artistic, social, and technical elements of food, believing that a modern chef must master both culinary skill and artistic presentation. Her signature creations include the Three Forms of Egg Dishes, a trio themed around the ocean, forest, and agriculture, and the artistically crafted Thermal Sense Curry.
