Movie
Description
Angelica Ainsworth is a central figure in the Ainsworth family, serving as the older sister of Julian Ainsworth. Her past is marked by tragedy, as she died during the Fourth Ainsworth Holy Grail War in her native world. Subsequently, her consciousness was transferred into a puppet body, effectively reviving her as a "Doll" to serve the family's ambitions as a powerful servant and warrior.
As a result of her transformation into a Doll, Angelica has lost the vast majority of her emotions, estimated to be over ninety percent. Her personality is defined by an almost chilling calm, seriousness, and composure, which she maintains even in the most intense situations. Any outward display of anger or passion is typically a calculated act rather than a genuine emotional outburst, performed only when the situation strategically demands it. This stoic exterior is a stark contrast to the gentle and intelligent woman she was said to be before her death. Despite her suppressed emotional state, she possesses an exceptionally strong mentality, which allows her to safely use powerful Class Cards without being overwhelmed by the Heroic Spirit's ego, a feat that others cannot easily replicate. Beneath her cold demeanor, she is still capable of deep, if subdued, feelings, most notably a fierce loyalty to her family. This is most poignantly demonstrated by her devotion to her younger brother, Julian, whom she protects and serves without question.
Angelica's primary motivation is duty. As a creation of the Ainsworth family, her existence is dedicated to fulfilling their goals, which she pursues with unwavering determination. She acts as a key agent in the family's plan to save their dying world, a mission that requires the capture of Miyu Edelfelt, who possesses the power of the Holy Grail. Angelica sees the protagonists from Illyasviel von Einzbern's world as obstacles to this objective and does not hesitate to use lethal force against them, viewing their interference as a threat to humanity's salvation according to her family's ideals.
Within the story of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya: Vow in the Snow and its sequels, Angelica serves as one of the primary antagonists. Her most significant role begins when she and Julian attack Shirou Emiya after he tries to reveal the truth to Miyu. She severely injures Shirou with her weapons and helps abduct Miyu, beginning a long conflict. Years later, when a dimensional rift opens, she and her ally, Beatrice Flowerchild, enter Illya's world to recapture Miyu, sparking the central conflict of the later arcs. Angelica is frequently dispatched to eliminate intruders in the Ainsworth castle, engaging in brutal battles against powerful beings like Gilgamesh and the young magi from the other world. Her actions are always in service of Julian, who is possessed by the family's ancestor, Darius.
Angelica's key relationships are defined by her role as a protector and tool of the Ainsworth family. Her most important bond is with her younger brother, Julian. Despite her emotional suppression, she shows moments of genuine concern for him, such as covering him with a blanket after his identity is exposed and staying by his side. She carries out his orders without hesitation, even when they involve morally questionable acts. She works alongside Beatrice Flowerchild, another of the family's powerful Dolls, and the two often fight as a unit, though Angelica's loyalty to Julian ultimately supersedes this partnership. Her relationship with her enemies, particularly Illyasviel von Einzbern and Shirou Emiya, is complex. She is a relentless pursuer of Miyu, but her interactions with Illya lead to moments where she explains the Ainsworth's tragic rationale, revealing the burden of her duty. After being defeated and subsequently abandoned by Julian, she is taken in by Illya's group, marking a significant turning point where the former antagonist is shown a measure of compassion.
Angelica's character undergoes a notable, if subtle, development. Initially, she is an implacable and nearly emotionless enemy, a perfect instrument of the Ainsworth will. However, through her defeats and confrontations, particularly with Illya who refuses to accept sacrificing one person for the world, a hint of her suppressed self emerges. Her emotional suppression is so profound that when she is defeated and Julian discards her as useless, she displays a subdued and accepting attitude, as if she expected this fate. This abandonment leads to her being taken in by the very people she was trying to destroy. After this point, she becomes more passive and resigned, quietly following those who now protect her, her tragic fate fully realized.
In combat, Angelica is an exceptionally formidable magus. Her primary weapon is the Archer Class Card, which contains the essence of the Heroic Spirit Gilgamesh. By installing this card, she gains access to the Gate of Babylon, allowing her to summon a seemingly infinite rain of legendary Noble Phantasms to assault her enemies. Her arsenal from the Gate includes powerful individual weapons, such as the chain Enkidu, which binds enemies and is especially effective against those with high divinity. Her ultimate weapon is Ea, the Sword of Rupture, an EX-ranked weapon capable of devastating attacks that tear apart space and time. Beyond the Archer card, Angelica is a master of Flash Air, the Ainsworth family's signature spatial displacement magecraft. This ability allows her to deflect enemy attacks, teleport objects, and even switch her own consciousness between bodies. She also demonstrates proficiency in other forms of magic, such as brainwashing spells, though these can be resisted by individuals with strong wills. In battle, she is a strategic and tactical fighter, using her combination of overwhelming firepower from the Gate of Babylon and the precision of Flash Air to corner even the most skilled opponents. She is even able to temporarily overwhelm Gilgamesh himself by using unnamed Class Cards to prevent him from reclaiming his own treasures.
