Description
Itsuki Ōtori is a third-year student in the musical department at Ayanagi Gakuen High School and a member of the school's elite student governing body, the Kao Council. Born on December 24th, he stands 186cm tall with a blood type of O. He comes from a branch family of the academy's chairman, making him part of the same lineage as his twin brother, Tsubasa Hiiragi.
His personality is defined by a free-spirited and unconventional nature. He behaves as he pleases, which has led to him being labeled a problem child or a heretic by those who adhere strictly to the school's rigid traditions. Despite this rebellious exterior, he is deeply generous and caring, especially towards the students he mentors. He is perceptive, able to judge others' attitudes quickly, and possesses a clever, sharp wit that he uses to defend his team's unorthodox methods. This combination of talent and secrecy often causes others to view him as a mysterious, strange senior.
Ōtori's primary motivation is the pursuit of freedom and enjoyment in musical performance, rather than status or honor. This philosophy puts him at odds with the traditionalist environment of Ayanagi Gakuen. He personally selected the five first-year students that make up Team Ōtori, including the protagonist Yuta Hoshitani, simply because it seemed like it would be fun. His role in the story is that of a mentor and a source of inspiration; he is the "dreaming high school student" whose dance performance years ago inspired Hoshitani to attend the academy.
His most significant relationship is with his twin brother, Tsubasa Hiiragi. As children, they were close, but were separated when Tsubasa was adopted into the main branch of the family. They reunited in high school as members of Team Tsukigami. However, Ōtori left the team after their first performance due to the lack of creative freedom, a decision that caused a rift between the brothers and led to years of distrust, particularly from Hiiragi. Other key relationships include his former teammates from Team Tsukigami, such as Kyoji Akatsuki, who despises him for leaving, and Christian Lion Yuzuriha and Sakuya Sazanami, who, while opposing his methods, still show him concern.
Over the course of the story, Ōtori experiences significant development. He withdraws from the Kao Council to protect the future of his students after the council threatens to suspend Team Ōtori from performing in the school festival. His students, led by Hoshitani, work to bring him back, culminating in a reconciliation with his brother and former teammates. He eventually returns to the Kao Council and participates in the graduation commemorative performance, finally achieving a sense of closure and reconciliation with his past.
Ōtori is an exceptionally talented performer, regarded as a genius in dance and song. He is also proficient in playing the piano. His leadership is unconventional, focusing on fostering enjoyment and individual expression within his team. He has a habit of appearing from unexpected places and possesses a calm demeanor, even when facing conflict or hostility from his peers.
